“Excellent guesthouse just off the beach”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

We absolutely enjoyed staying at this wonderful guesthouse just off the beach and meeting the lovely hosts. Our room was amazingly bright and spacious, while breakfast was always super yummy with fresh raspberries and blueberries. We hope to come back soon.

Spent over 3 months working in Edinburgh and had he great pleasure of staying at Abercorn for most of that time. Rooms are clean and spacious. Family run B&B, around 20 mins from the city centre by bus quicker by car with frequent (5-10 mins)public transport directly to town literally 50M outside so no problem for work or visiting the sights. Breakfasts are suitably Olympic!! and well done so as to keep both worker and busy sightseer well fueled all day.
Comercial visitors keep coming here all year round with many regulars, I think this says it all in both terms of friendlyness, value and quality

Room Tip: All rooms are good ..stayed in them all ;)

Just back from a weekend in Edinburgh. This was our 4th stay at the Abercorn and we were very warmly welcomed back by Angela. We thoroughly enjoy the quality of this guest house which is decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The beds are very comfortable, breakfast cooked excellently (and with an excellent selection of continental and cooked items) and its location is perfect for a short bus ride or drive into the city centre. After a very busy shopping trip into the city we arrived back at the Abercorn late afternoon and Angela kindly made us pots of tea and coffee and we sat in the conservatory with her for half an hour having a good chat. That said, she's not overbearing. When it was time to leave, we were thanked for choosing to stay at the Abercorn and we insisted that we would not stay anywhere else in Edinburgh in the future. We are so pleased we found this gem and would highly recommend it to anyone who is going to Edinburgh and who does not wish to stay with one of the major hotel chains.

Room Tip: The room on the ground floor at the back of the house is HUGE with a great bathroom and is beautiful...

Well, choosing the Abercorn was a no brainer for us as my Grandmother did live next door at No 3!! (though we are talking more than forty years ago!) Be that as it may, our stay with Angela and her husband was perfect. Breakfast superb, cooked to perfection and really it would be hard to find any fault, superb choices. Room and cleanliness, wonderful. Good eating at all the local restaurants, we tried nearly all and never had a problem, food or service. Turning right outside the front door the bus service yards away, takes you straight into the city centre. Even better, if you want to see the Pandas the No 26 takes you straight to the zoo. Would recommend, and will definitely stay again on our next visit to Old Reekie.

Stayed with my boyfriend for 3 nights in May. Beautiful house. was concerned about it being out of town but it wasn't a problem. I loved being near the beach for an evening stroll. Bus stop just outside for a 15-20 minute ride into town. As all the other reviews have said - Angela is lovely, made us a pot of tea on arrival. She's warm and friendly but not overbearing. Breakfast is delicious, plenty of it and definately sets you up for the day! We had one of the smaller rooms on the ground floor but suited us fine. Would recommend it.

My husband and I stayed here in August 2011 and were very impressed with the beauty of the home, location, and room. We stayed in the first room on the left which was a nice size and fit our two large luggages and some extras well. The shower was hot and had good pressure. The dining room is quaint and there was a good variety of breakfast foods, which came promptly. In retrospect I think it might be nice to have a little radio or cd player with some light/non-distracting music to make the breakfast a bit more comfortable for all us strangers dining together. The service was overall very pleasant. We will likely stay here again in the future.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review for us and the very kind comments are greatly appriciated We are sorry you were unable to hear our music it is the first thing we put on in the morning, I love my music being heard in the dining room so a little confused I usually have to watch the volume to make sure not to loud, but I think you may have been in the Conservatory having breakfast, and on checking today if you are dining in there the music is a little vague and hard to hear. so we will take this on board, thanks again and glad you enjoyed Edinburgh.Kind Regards,
Angela.

My husband and myself very much enjoyed our two nights here. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by Angela and given a large cafetiere of coffee - much needed after our long drive! The room was large, decor was lovely and the bed comfy. The cooked breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Our hosts really are accomodating- I asked if they had any syrup and sure enough there it was on the table within a few minutes! We had a really good natter with Angela and felt very much at home!
