“A good nights sleep and a great breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

Good central position, with nearly all places within walking distance. Rooms were small but spotless and most importently for me quiet, Breakfast was great and all the staff were very pleasant and helpfull, I would definately recommend this hotel/accomadation.

I have spent four days at this hotel. All what you need. A nice, clean room. Close to the main shopping street, a short from the castle. Breakfast is more than expected for the price. A short menu with good stuff. Ideal place for those who would like to visit Edinburgh, but not to spend too much money for overnights. More than good value for money.

This place is decent and comfortable enough for what it is: ex-student accommodation and one of the few central places likely to be available and affordable during the Festival or the Tattoo.

Very handy for venues like The Pleasance.

Would happily stay there again and it's over 30 years since I was a student.

Not a hotel, but decent ex-student accomodation, got a discount for being an Edinbugh Univ' graduate, small(ish) wet-room shower, but good water pressure, comfortable single bed, first-rate breakfast, well positioned, within walking distance of main attractions without being over-run by tourists, i was well pleased :)

Not quite sure how it can be called a hotel - it was student accomodation (or ex). The rooms were very basic with no home comforts. We had 2 rooms between 2 couples and both were the same. The rooms were very dated and needed refurbishing, the curtains actually came off the curtain rail. The bathroom - well wet room, it was very tiny. If you tried to wash your face in the sink you banged your head on the small shelf which held your toiletries. The room was clean along with the bed and comfy. It just should not be classed as a Hotel. The breakfasts we had were very good served in the students common room by students and I think possibly cooked by them. Students/staff were very helpful and polite. There is no lift in the accomodation so be warned.

Small rooms which used to be graduate student housing, for the university, with showers that pour onto the toilets. All of which would be perhaps tolerable - it's perfectly clean - but the insult added to the injury is having to pay 5 pounds for internet access for a day (when one generally wants an hour) and then spend 10 minutes attempting to log on - filling out long forms and other annoying things. Why can't British hotels simply add (or not) some money to the total and make internet access 'free'? It all comes off as very mean.
But the breakfast is indeed great, with fresh fruit and berries and cooked breakfast as well.

Room Tip: There isn't a lift, so go for low!

We booked here for two nights the room was a standard size with a wet room shower the price of the accommodation was very reasonably for a city , it is within walking distance of all the main sightseeing . The breakfast had a great choice freshly cooked and plenty of it , if you want to do this city on a budget look no further
We also took a highland day tour excellent value in both cost and use of time for more details of this it can be found on the royal mile
