I spent two peaceful days at Brae Lodge. It has a great location if you want to leave the car, as there are frequent bus services outside and it only takes 15 to 20 minutes to get into the city centre.

The room was clean and spacious - superking #2. The homemade shortbread in the room was excellent, especially with a nice cup of tea. The breakfast was of an excellent standard, especially the full Scottish with haggis.

But much more than this, the hosts gave a warm welcome, were friendly and helpful. Being issued with an outside door key meant I was free to come and go as I pleased. I will use this establishment again.

Off road parking was a boon, with a convenient bus stop 30 metres down the road, so we didn't have to use the car at all during our stay. We arrived early but had no trouble checking in, pleasant experience. We had the superking room #2, which was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Some home made biscuits to sample as well. Breakfast was excellent with a choice of the day if you wanted, plenty to eat. However, the bathroom was cramped for such a large room, a large person would have had difficulty performing their ablutions. The shower head holder was upside down so the tapered bit was pointing downwards however the shower head did stay in place, just. The sink drainage was poor. Overall though a pleasant experience and I would revisit again.

Just spent 2 nights at Brae Lodge. Overall very impressed. Clean and smart rooms and a good breakfast, so would recommend. Felt very welcome by the owner

Only slight downside is that its a little out of town, so if you want to step out stright into the city action, this might not be for you.

But otherwise a great option for a short city break

We were greeted warmly by Neil, who then served up delicious homemade scones and tea for us which were much appreciated after our drive across Scotland.

The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was small, but met our needs.

The bus routes into the city pass by right outside the front door and Neil was able to tell us which ones we needed to get to the various sites we wanted to visit.

Breakfasts were good - we especially enjoyed the scotch pancakes special.

We intend to come back to Edinburgh in the future, and will happily use Brae Lodge again when we do.

We have just left the Brae Lodge after a 5 night stay and were very happy with the service they provided. Neil made us feel most welcome from the outset and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very adiquate for the needs, clean and comfortable. There was a regular bus-route into the heart of he city right outside and so was a very convenient location.
Food was simple but always delicious and quick to come.
Overall an excellent job.
Many thanks. We would happily use Brae Lodge again.

We needed a place to allow us easy access to Edinburgh, and to the East Lothians. Brae Lodge was great for this. We found Neil and Lesley friendly, good fun and keen to help, but also not intrusive, which we appreciated. The breakfasts offered us a good choice, with imaginative specials as well as the standard 'full breakfast', were well cooked and efficiently served. Our room was spacious and comfortable, although the ensuite was very small. The bus service into Edinburgh was right outside the door, with buses every 15 minutes or so. Whenever we needed advice, Neil & Lesley were really helpful in directing us. We would certainly recommend it to others.

We have been touring Scotland for 15 days and by far this was the most unwelcoming B&B of all compared to the other B&B s we resided in . The first thing we were asked is to pay in advance our two night stay, and although we paid in cash we were asked to provide our credit card details. The room was spacious but was not in its cleanest condition. The cooked breakfast was very poor. ..imagine 1/4 of tomatoe 1 slice of bacon 2 halves of toast, sausage and a scoop of scrambled egg. The cereals did not look very attractive either. During the first day of breakfast the host remarked that breakfast time is over and he had to lock up the breakfast area and he was in a hurry to clear up the table. Another ridiculous thing was the fact that water was not permissable in the rooms and there was a note stating that "Scottish tap water is fit to drink". In my opinion everyone should be free to choose the quality of water he would like to drink. To conclude staying here gets yo the feel of living in a concentration camp.
