“2nd Choice”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

I say 2nd choice because ideally we would have liked to have stopped on Princess Street as we did in November but could not because of the city being so busy for the Scotland/Wales Rugby Game. However the hotel and the staff were excellent as was the Brewers Fayre next door. A great nights sleep, a short journey to the city centre and very close to decent eating houses and pubs just down the road near the Royal Yacht. Next time it will be a tough decision as to which one to stay inn!!

We booked this hotel so as to be close to the Royal Yacht Britannia as a treat for our elderly mother. We understood it was at Leith rather than Newhaven, so instead of a short walk to Ocean Terminal, we had to take a taxi each time (the bus service wasn't direct). The adjacent pub was nothing special so we had no choice but to go somehere else apart from Asda which was the next closest place for something to eat. The accommodation and service at the hotel was as good as ever, but they really should re-name it "Newhaven Waterfront" as it is very deceptive. Although we had a nice sea-view towards the Forth bridges, the high-rise buildings and empty spaces around made it quite a desolate and intimidating location. I wonder if the Property Misdescriptions Act applies in Scotland?

Room Tip: Make sure you find out exactly where the place is located before booking.

Booked this hotel for 3 nights 15th, 16th, 17th March, Lovely spotlessly clean, best 3 nights sleep in a long time, wanted take the bed home with me, never had the breakfast at the adjoining brewers fayre but i'm sure it would be lovely after having them previously in other premier hotels. Located right next to the marina with the royal brittannia located next to ocean view shopping centre 5 min walk away. Bus stop right outside hotel where you can catch a bus into Edingburgh for £3.50 day ticket. Enjoyable stay, pity about the weather but hey not the hotels fault.

I stayed here whilst in town to see a show and I was sure the location would be ideal.

I was not disappointed.

Edinburgh can be a bit slow to navigate by car especially during the tram works but the hotel was easy to find coming from the West. Right on the seafront in Leith next to a 24hr Asda and 5 min drive from Ocean Terminal shops and Royal Yacht Britannia.

Check in was friendly, efficient and quick. Staff very helpful with a good attitude.

Room easy to find and the hotel is like a tardis!

Room was exactly what you expect and absolutely spotless. You would think you were the first customer!

A trick perhaps with 2 room keys is to leave one in when you go out so you can leave the heating on. Cold outside at the weekend!

Little noise, comfy bed, nice view, great shower, super TV and midday checkout. Magic.

The Brewers Fayre next door was also excellent for dinner and breakfast and was always busy which is a good sign in a residential area. Again, staff here were always helpful and cheery. A big plus.

The staff were superb and very friendly and helpful. Thanks.

Taxi to/from hotel to Princes Street will be about £9-11.

I would come back next time I'm in the area.

One of the newer Premier Inns with the usual standard of room and fittings with lots of invaluable free parking. Check in is electronic but it makes it simple and this is not the Ritz so no need for little chats with a chipper receptionist. Area is Newhaven not Leith and certainly not Edinburgh. An earlier review gushed about the wonderful views over the Forth which are nice in good weather but the problem with an open river is the lack of shelter from rain that buildings give, this place is uncomfortable in bad weather and no mistake. You are quite a distance from the main restaurant area of Leith and a lot further to Edinburgh. It was evident that many people thought they were booking a hotel on the outskirts of the city, no you are not. Buses are nearby and good value but there is no short stroll to the sights. That said the deals are great and in good weather this is a contender as long as you are happy with the travelling. 2 issues on this trip, the pay as you go internet was appallingly slow and the attached pub gets very noisy outside at closing time. Not my favourite PI but still OK for the right visit.

Great value for money and the expected Premiere Inn experience. This hotel is conveniently located 20 mins from city center and offers some great views of the waterfront. everything including breakfast, room cleanliness, location is great.

Room Tip: Ask for waterfront facing rooms
