“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

We were left in a panic when the B&B we had booked in Edinburgh cancelled at the last minute leaving us scrambling for affordible accommodation. We found this hotel to be perfect. Out of the way of the crowds, a short bus ride into town with the bus out front and a wonderful view of the harbour. The room was spotless and the shower was excellent. The room got a little warm and we were provided with a fan. The people at the desk offered a second fan if the room wasn't cool enough. We couldn't have been happier with the service of the staff. The cost was far less than the hotels in town, our one day bus pass amounted to 3.50 pounds each. We were in walking distance to the Britannia and there was a 24-7 Asda's less than 10 minute walk away (late night beer and wine - handy). The hotel restaurant was not the best, old bacon, blah! However the wonderful restaurant along the walk had an outdoor patio, the best salmon I've had in years.

Have just come back from a long weekend. The weather was quite warm but not exceptionally hot. We have stayed at many Premier Inn's but not in August. This hotel was up to all the usual standards of the others. However, we arrived late on the Friday evening and the room temprature was showing 26.8. There was no air conditioning but a fan had been provided. We opened the window the small amount that you can and turned the fan on full blast it was very noisy and as we wanted to go to bed shortly we contacted the receptionist he was very appologetic and replaced the noisy fan and gave us an extra one as well. We managed to get the temprature down to 26.4 and then slept without covers it was a restless night. Next day we went out for the day and left the window open and the curtains closed we managed to get the temprature down to 25 and did sleep a bit better. The hotel is in a nice position overlooking the lighthouse, 10 minutes walk from the Royal Yacht Britania which is well worth a visit! I like Premier Inn's but didn't realise that they didn't have air con now I know would probably not stay in one in August would be different if you could open the windows a bit wider had a weekend in Padstow previous weekend wouldn't say it was any hotter an old hotel again without air con but had windows you could open made all the difference!

Was in Edinburgh for the Festival Fringe and apart for the inflated prices for the month of August twas very enjoyable indeed, very handy for buses to city centre (50mtrs). this hotel is being extended at the moment and car parking is a bit less than normal.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view, see my picture

Nice premier inn , great quite location, lovely helpful staff. Rooms up to usual premier inn standards, an ajoining restaurant which serves decent food and a great buffet breakfast. Bus stop across the road from hotel and a 10 minute trip at a cost of £1.40 takes you into the centre of Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view

We stayed for 3 nights in August took attend Tatoo. Staff very helpful at check inn. Rooms much like any Premier Inn - comfortable and clean. Got a bit hot at nights. Not really disturbed by current building work
Location good to get into town with bus across the road. Walk to Britannia.
Breakfast good value and staff welcoming. Had one evening meal there on Tex Mex night - really a bit sad with up to 4 dishes empty at a time. With a prepared buffet option there should be no excuse for empty dishes. However there are other good dining options nearby if you want a change from Premier Inn fare.

We stayed two nights, two adults and 8 year old “young assistant” in a family room. Clean modern décor, large flat screen wall mounted TV, shower & bath. Breakfast is first rate, evening meal good but better dining nearby, cheerful helpful staff and free parking. Note the location is not clearly shown on Google Maps, the actual hotel is immediately NE of the old Newhaven Fish-market, check hotel location map. There is building work going on at the moment but this does not cause any problems. Deliveries roused us between 0700 and 0715; if you want to sleep longer ask for a sea view room on the NW side of the hotel. Our only gripe related to room ventilation and temperature – don’t be mislead by the sleek modern temperature controller in the room this only controls heating, there is nor air-con or power ventilation. Comfort is dependent on natural ventilation from the French door/window which has restricted opening “for your safety”. Though the window in our room was left as far open as it would go the room temperature rose from 23C to 25C overnight when the temperature outside was 12C – not very comfortable. This is an excellent location for visiting Edinburgh and “HMY Britannia”, public transport (Lothian No.10 bus) stops outside the hotel. Last bus back well after 2300 so convenient for return from the Tattoo £3.50 day pass for adults £2.00 for a child. Apart from the room ventilation temperature issue we slept well and enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms quieter
