I stayed at the Highfield guest house in July. I had a wonderful stay, the room was very nice and clean, breakfast was excellent and John and Christine were very helpful.

I would certainly stay stay again at the Highfield.

3 nights very nice, no problems. Very friendly hosts who gave us many helpful suggestions and went out of their way to take care of us. Makes you feel very comfortable and secure. Many of their guests are connected with the University of Edinburgh and repeat customers. Great cooked breakfast, very nice and clean room. No parking lot, however ample street parking. Take the bus into the city, leave the car for trips into the country (St. Andrews was excellent.)

An absolutely lovely hotel. Amazing breakfast and all cooked to order, not forgetting the lovely home bakes. The rooms are really clean and have every facility, even down to cotton wool and cotton buds. The location is excellent and both the proprietor and proprietess have loads of local knowledge that they are more than happy to share with you.

I'm just finsihing my stay at Highfield House and wanted to post a review before I'm too busy when I return home. I was in England on business and afterwards I spent three nights at the Highfield house. It is exceptionally clean and quiet and the owners are lovely people. As another guest noted, there are lots of small touches which make for a relaxing stay. In addition to the lovely toiletries and nail brush, there is also a magnifying makeup mirror which hte female guests will appreciate. My little basket of tea, coffee and hot chocolate was replenished each day and a small package of shortbread cookies added. Breakfast was always freshly prepared. The hosts are knowledgeable about Edinburgh, provided a small map, restaurant suggestions and help whenever asked. If I am ever in Edinburgh again I will absolutely stay here. If friends are coming I would recommend it without hesitation.

I'm recently back from a long weekend in Edinburgh, staying at Highfield Guest House, and just have to post a review. I chose Highfield having read the reviews already posted on tripadvisor last year, and having never been disappointed before by accommodation reviewed by tripadvisor, I was hopeful of yet another positive experience. My stay at Highfield surpassed expectations - even before I arrived, from email and phone correspondence to make my booking, I already had a good impression of the hosts, John and Christine. They are so friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful, as well as a great resource for local information (this may seem obvious but I am often amazed at how little useful knowledge can be gleaned from people working in all aspects of the tourism industry!)

The room I stayed in was a welcoming and restful place at the end of each day, with a beautiful large window looking out to the garden, high ceiling that lended to the sense of space, excellent and plentiful storage, a very comfortable bed and spotless bathroom, complete with heated towel rail, lovely! The attention to detail is instantly obvious, and makes you feel like a family member, rather than just a guest: selection of herbal teas and hot chocolate, as well as tea and coffee in the room, with a little teapot instead of just a mug - really nice touch. And in the bathroom - lovely toiletries, including a nailbrush and cotton buds - an extremely good idea and something you rarely find, even in a much more expensive hotel.

Breakfast was excellent also - a wide choice of cooked dishes and a lovely relaxing breakfast room, a great way to start the day. Getting to and from Highfield was very easy - the bus service is very efficient and walking into town is also very easy.

A couple of tips - right across the road from Highfield is a beautiful stationery and gift shop, "Bitsy Adam's", owned by Donna Adam, who makes the beautiful handmade greeting cards herself (her husband takes the photos which are on sale there too) - it was a real treasure trove for an original gift or card, definitely worth a browse! And a restaurant tip - David Bann's vegetarian restaurant, on St Mary's Street, just off the Royal Mile. One of the best meals I have ever had, anywhere, and very reasonably priced compared to most restaurants in Edinburgh.

All in all, Highfield was a great base for visiting Edinburgh, and I certainly look forward to my next visit and staying there again!

We stayed here for 3 nights and had our best stay in Scotland. The owners, John and Christine were the most gracious hosts we've ever, and were really fun to talk with. The room was absolutely spotless and it was obvious that they paid great attention to every little detail. The breakfast was excellent. Everything was fresh and very well prepared. The location is about 10 minutes away from town via buses 2 blocks away so not central, but very convenient and in a nice neighborhood, and John and Christine are extremely helpful with directions and things to do around town. All in all one of the best experiences ever in a guest house or B & B. And their dog, Beckett is a real sweetheart!
