This place is an absolute gem! The rooms are spacious and immaculate with lots of little touches that you would not get in larger hotels (corkscrew and wine glasses etc) Breakfast was fab and plentiful and Maggie, Kate & Gordon are amazing hosts. If you need somewhere to stay in Edinburgh, then check in to the Highfield!! You certainly will not be disappointed.

If you want a beautiful, elegant, fabulous place to stay, Highfield Guest House is for you. The room we stayed in was well appointed, spotlessly clean and beautiful. The dining room is elegant, and breakfast every morning was outstanding. Gordon , Maggie and Kate are excellent hosts, and are very knowledgeable about the area, attractions, restaurants, and bus routes. Everything was very accessible from this location. We can hardly wait to return for a longer stay.

A very enjoyable experience from initial contact through to the final farewell. The B&B owners were helpful, informative, convivial and generous with their time. A clean, comfortable room with satellite TV. Breakfast excellent and included the opportunity to enjoy the local specialities of porridge and haggis. Situated on a bus route into town. Walking the route takes you through areas with a variety of pubs, restaurants and shops.

Downsides - there weren't any, unless you don't like walking all of 100m from where your car may be parked. And I could always have moved closer later anyway.

Definitely worth another visit. Well done.

Highfield Guest House felt like our home for the two nights we were there. We felt very welcome and it was the perfect place to relax. Located about 30 minutes' walk (or a ride on one of the very frequent buses - no more than a couple of minutes' wait at a stop, if that) from the city centre, it was very quiet and peaceful, yet there were plenty of bars, pubs and places to eat nearby. The room was beautiful - it looked and felt as though everything was brand-new for our visit - and very comfortable indeed. Breakfast was outstanding. I preferred our room in this guest house to ones we've had at far more expensive, so-called luxury hotels - I felt there was more attention to detail (eg wine glasses and a corkscrew; hand lotion, cotton buds, make-up remover pads; a pair of scissors) and a greater focus on our comfort and convenience. Lovely - highly recommended.

As I was not able to stay along the road at Lauderville Guest House ( also on Mayfield Road), the owners reccomended Highfield Guest House to me and a very good reccomendation it was too. Maggie, the owner, was an excellant host and ensured that I wanted for nothing. I stayed in their single room ( the only room left) and was not at all disapointed. The breakfast ( made by Maggies sister) was superb and I will be hard pushed in future to make up my mind which of these two superb guest houses to chose!

My partner and I had a fantastic one night stay at Highfield while we visited the University. Elegant rooms, friendly and helpful service and wonderful breakfasts. The internet was high speed with no problems. We paid 45 pounds per person per night. Our only complaint was that the check-out time is early, 10:00 am, which makes it hard to relax on your last day in town.

The B&B is a few miles out of the city centre, but there are easy busses that cost 3 pounds a day. It's a 20 min walk to the University. Edinburgh is, of course, lovely. One of the top cities in the world.

My boyfriend and I found this lovely B&B by accident, and we are so glad that we did! Maggie, Gordon & Kate were absolutely spectacular. Once we arrived Maggie immediately informed us of everything we needed to know, printed out maps for us without us even having to ask. The breakfast was delicious and filling, they really want to ensure you have a good time. Gordon is such a funny and nice fellow and they all made us feel right at ease.

We also had to leave before breakfast the following day, and Maggie took it upon herself to pack us a breakfast so we'd have something at the airport!

They made our first stay in Edinburgh memorable and we will definitely be back again.

It's plain and simple, they are just good people and this is just a beautiful home to enjoy your stay in! We definitely were not looking forward to coming back to Canada.
