Great tour, would recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Make sure you wrap up in the colder months as you visit a graveyard and it's bloomin' freezing standing around listening to the tour guides.

They remember history of the city and some great local stories and creepy tales. they seem to love what they do which I could see through the whole tour.

Great way to see some of the city too, as you pass plenty of bars and restaurants on the way through the city.

Very informative guide, funny if not a bit contrived. the guide based himself on David Tennants dr who charictor that was funny at first but got boring pretty fast.

The tour was okay value for money
although we where told it be £8 per person as we where a large group and it turned out to be £10. It was a good tour though and great to see the covenanters toumb .

Nice way to spend a dark evening in Edinburgh. Our guide Dave was great! Ghost stories in dark vaults and a cemetary... If not in Edinburgh then where????

We went on the "City of the Dead Haunted Graveyard" tour with our guide Gerry (that's Gerry with a G, not to be confused with John, his older brother!). It was a thoroughly entertaining and thought-provoking evening. Gerry gave us a lot of information which was detailed and not delivered in a "just another ghost story that I tell every night" type of way. You felt he actually believed in what he was telling you and that you were compelled to research further yourself. The group contained about 15 people, which I felt was a good number (we went on an Underground Vaults tour the following night and there were about 30 people and it was just too crowded - also some of the information the second guide gave us conflicted with that of the previous night). Whilst there is a "gift shop" at the end of the tour there was no pressure put on you to purchase. There are always deals on meaning it is good value for money and you get to see a side of Edinburgh that you may not have otherwise. Thoroughly recommended and even more so if you get Gerry as your guide!

The evening of Friday, October 24th, around 9pm, my beloved Maia and I took a Mercat Tour of the Underground Tunnels in Edinbourgh.

Our guide, Ian, did an *amazing* job both keeping the crowd happy, interested, excited, and in control... and telling the story in a fascinating and engaging way. One particular notable was as we navigated one of the outdoor streets, we passed a homeless man on the sidewalk. Ian walked up our line and declared "you are about to see a man on the side of the sidewalk... it may be a bit disturbing to you, but please do NOT ignore him and make believe he's not there -- he is there.. and he is real -- if you like what you're experiencing on this tour so far, maybe consider dropping him some spare change on this cold night." I thought it was extremely good of him to do that, and am THANKFUL they have both competent and compassionate staff.. our ghost tour was informative and fun and a perfect way to spend our last night in Edinbourgh before moving onto other cities as part of our Honeymoon.

AND -- I am quite certain we spotted a ghost! I attached the image here, and promise -- it is NOT altered. The only thing I did to it was add a circle & the text, and dim the area outside the circle to draw attention to the ghost.

HIGHLY recommend this NON-cheesy tour.. learned a lot, had fun.. a wonderful evening!
