Having read previous reviews I had high expectations, they didn't disappoint, we were here for a short break and a concert, so I was looking for something close to city but with free parking, arrived mid Friday evening, parking is on street, and found a space with little fuss.
Entering hotel, you are greeted like an old friend, very welcoming, and rather than being thrown a key and a smile, you are greeted with an excellent and informative chat about the perils of Edinburgh and the car, and given a full brief on the best way to get the buses, very impressed, gave us full confidence to use the public transport to get around, never not used a car for so long!
Room ticked the relevant boxes for a hotel room, it was clean, comfy and good grief it was warm! First time I've ever turned the heat down in a hotel room!
Breakfast was a generous affair, help yourself to drinks, and a good selection of teas, 'cold' breakfast was help yourself, or wait for a freshly cooked breakfast, naturally we were more than happy to wait for the cooked breakfast!
We would be moe than happy to stay here again, excellent value for money and just nicely located, no excess noise, and super friendly and very well behaved Labradors to greet you each morning, even if your not a dog person, don't fear, they wait for you to talk to them before being super friendly!

Dear Reviewer

Many Moons of thanks for a terrific review, we do like to think that the first point of contact with our Guests is most Important and of course our last, which is usually at Breakie time, last year we decided to send out a personalized Map of Edinburgh and a Welcome letter to e-mail enquirers with lots of extra useful Info and now we search the Booking Agents Information and try and get Information to the e-mail address for the Booking that they just sent.

Knowledge is indeed power and we never forget how daunting the first day is in any City on our beautiful Planet can be. Edinburgh is a very compact City for our Worldwide travellers and is wonderful to explore on foot, our location as this Guest found is Ideal for free parking (we have 2 spaces) and Edinburgh Bus service is second to none and has digital tracking displayed on most Bus Stops.

I personally think that when I order my favourite Breakfast it will put a perfect smile on my own face and I hope most of our Guests feel the same when in the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia..

Keilidh and Ruaridh our two Golden Retriever Dogs say hello and thanks for the cuddles.

Maxx..

This is probably the best B&B I've stayed in this far. We were given a spacious room (room no 7) on the 3rd and highest floor. It had a big toilet which I liked very much! There were loads of thoughtful touches in the room and throughout the hotel, and the Duck Island toiletries smelled good!

Breakfast was far from a simple affair. You could choose from a respectable variety of food offerings. I highly recommend the Full British (or English) breakfast and yes, that includes the haggis which are a must try!

The owners were friendly and helpful and I liked the modern decor of the hotel and of course the 2 adorable golden retrievers laying about. Even if you are not dog lovers, the dogs are very well trained and docile.

The location was ideal for us because we rented a car and we wanted a place with ample (and free) parking space, that was close to the action (Royal Mile etc). We were advised to take a bus into the City Center as parking was expensive and some roads were under construction. However, it was too cold for us so we drove to town anyway. Parking was expensive (about GBP10.80 for less than four hours) but not prohibitively so - we parked at Castle Terrace.

Overall, a very pleasant B&B experience which sets the bar high. I'm always going to compare all my hotel and B&B stays to this one.

Dear Reviewer
Thank you for a glorious review and for noticing the hard work we put into renovating room 6 and 7, hhm I hear you think, well we had pinched a wee bit of room 7 some 14 years ago to give a en-suite to room 6 but in 2011 we felt that travellers expectations had Increased greatly since then so we did away with room 6 altogether as we know our Guests really do want more spacious en-suites.
Next year we will convert 3 more rooms and en-suites to give that feeling of space. Times have indeed moved on when sharing Bathroom facilities with others was the norm.
Annette and I have been in the Hospitality Business now for 30 years and have tried to combine an Old Buildings Charms with a modern touch (I am an Electrician to Trade) and hope that Travellers such as this Guest will like what we have done, we hope it adds to the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia's cosiness, Woof - Woof say Keilidh and Ruaridh..

We arrived much later on the Friday evening for this birthday weekend than planned but this was no problem to the owners who gave us a warm welcome and directed us to a local Italian restaurant for a last minute (and delicious) pizza. Our room was compact but cosy with a good shower and located at the top of the hotel (as we wanted a view). It was a bit of a clamber up two flights of stairs but well worth it with a good view towards Arthur's Seat. The location of the hotel was ideal for us. It was very quiet with reasonable on-street parking but close enough to town to enable us to meander in at leisure whilst sight-seeing on the way. There were good restaurants and bars within 5-10 mins walking distance which allowed us to eat and drink very well locally on both evenings. The breakfasts were good with lots of choice although I was disappointed that I did not get a runny egg with my Eggs Florentine . . . will ask next time!

Room Tip: Having a room on the top floor is well worth the view if you're fit and have limited luggage.

Dear Reviewer

It is really good when people staying with us meander into Town as this Guest did, as we really are just at the edge of Happiness, Free Parking, 30 Bar/Restaurants, Great Bus Service, Golf Course, Swimming Pool and the Wonderful Arthur's Seat Edinburgh's extinct Volcano and all within easy walking distance. I will make sure Dear Guest on your return that your Eggs Florentine shall indeed have a lovely runny Egg Yolk, Oh by the way our Eggs Benedict is also scrummy and yummy..

This is a nice and affordable hotel, with very friendly staff, serving a wonderful breakfast, and with convenient buslines into town. Some rooms have really nice views on Arthurs Seat. Watch out for the dogs though... They're so cute when lying on the floor

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for a concise description of Hotel Ceilidh-Donia and our Two Woofies. Annette and I moved into this small quiet residential area of Edinburgh 30 years ago and took Foreign Students into our spare rooms to help ends meet, not knowing that all these years later we would still be enjoying immensely the Hospitality Business, It really is a joy to meet people from all over our Small but ever so Precious Planet Earth.

This is a very nice place to stay. The owners immediately give you a warm welcome straight away. The breakfast is excellent, rooms are perfect as is the bathroom. If you are looking for a nice cosy place just a short walk from the city centre, this is the place to be.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I spoke with them a lot in advance of arrival and they were very helpful. They offer lots of advice about the local area and can provide maps with recommendations of where to eat and drink. The location is an easy walking distance into Edinburgh centre, though it is well services by buses. It also near Arthur's Seat for those wanting a good walk. There are lots of restaurants and pubs in a fifteen minute walk. The hotel itself was immaculately clean. Breakfasts were very good. There is a lounge area for guests and a bar which is well stocked with a wide range of drinks.

My wife and I stayed for our honeymoon and we are glad that we did We willc ertainly be returning.

We spent four nights in this cosy hotel at the end of October. The owners were very friendly and helpful when we arrived, offering practical advice on the area. The hotel was about 25 minutes walk from the centre (there are also buses) and was in a quiet residential area, near to Arthur's Seat, and very peaceful at night. The breakfast was particularly good with a variety of options cooked to order in addition to all the usual fruits, cereals, yogurt, toast etc. I was particularly impressed that they were able to provide me with a gluten free breakfast, despite the fact that I had not been able to request this before arriving. This was very much appreciated. The weather was quite cold while we were there and it was lovely to come back to this hotel after being out all day, because it was comfortable and always lovely and warm. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room were also a welcome bonus. We thought Ceilidh-Donia was good value and enjoyed our stay here, and discovering the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

Dear Reviewer It is great when Guests appreciate the little things in life that Annette and the Staff thoughtfully provide in advance of their arrival, Annette makes sure we can cater for most Dietary needs, we even provided Guests who had Motor Bikes with a long Chain with a secure Padlock.

Historically, Breakfast to a Scot is the most Important meal of the Day with our ever changing weather, it sets you up for the Day, hence our traditional Bacon, Eggs, Sausage, Mushrooms, Haggis, Black Pudding and my favourite a Tattie Scone just nicely Crisped up but we also appreciate that our Guests come from all over this Wee Planet of ours, Mother Earth and offer a wide selection of choices, we now have an all-day Cereal Bar with Tea, Coffee and Cup a Soup FREE all Day and will offer Toast from 10-00 pm - 11-00 pm, and there are other little snacks for sale.

We also appreciate it when Gusts notice that we do not scrimp on the Heating Bills and love it when we see people’s faces smile when they come back to the Cozy Hotel Ceilidh-Donia.
