“Good Location, Good Value”
Reviewed March 2, 2009

This is an ideal hotel if planning on travelling around Edinburgh on foot or public transport. Due it's location being central to several bars, clubs, reasturants and Cinema, it is understandable and was antisipated that the ambiant noise throughout the night from the surrounding area was noticeable, but not disturbing. The hotel it's self we found relitively quiet for a Saturday/Sunday.
The room (Non-Smoking standard double) was clean and sufficently equipt. The size was also adaquate for our duration of stay however if were were staying any longer than one night, storage would have become a real problem.
For our room, "Cable/Satalitte TV" consisted of BBC1, BBC2, ITV, C4, Sky1, Sky News, Sky Sports News, Nickelodeon, with BBC R1 and BB R4 which is hardly what I would call Cable/Satalitte TV. (Sorry, this is a bug bearer of mine when hotels say Cable/Satalitte TV) I'm sure they could provide Freeview for less than the commercial subscriptions Sky are chargeing and provide a wider choice of viewing and listening selection.
Staff were efficent and friendly, off-street private parking was availible with limited spaces. I'd say there were no more than apx. 10/15 spaces which each carried a nominal fee.

Nice hotel, nice staff. Will stay again........if i can get booked!

Booked hotel via one of the last minute hotel room web sites, so got a great deal. Only a one night stay to take my daughter on a visit to Edinburgh University. Great location, rooms had recently been decorated, very clean, spacious shower room, friendly staff. Only a continental breakfast, but otherwise for a 1-2 night stay, great value (if you use one of the many hotel web sites).

Thank you for feedback about Holiday Inn Express - Edinburgh City Centre, Picardy Place, Edinburgh.

I was really happy to read that your feedback is similar to the comments left by the majority of guests leaving comments about the hotel on Tripadvisor.

Even though the hotel opened in 2004, the team follow a pro-active maintenance and deep cleaning schedule.

The hotel has recently changed from Express by Holiday Inn to Holiday Inn Express and new bedding, new shower curtains and a choice of new firm and soft pillows have been installed.

Thank you for the positive comments about the location, cleanliness and staff. I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again should you have reason to visit Edinburgh again.

Kind Regards

Philip

Good Location for the Playhouse which is right across the road. Only a few parking spaces which we were lucky enough to get one. The room itself was clean althought the bed is a bit hard for me. Great place to stay if you are looking for a night out on the town but not so great if you are just looking for a quiet room to sleep. The nightclub next door only seems to play one song and I was wakened for hours to BOOM BOOM BOOM. I'm to old for that now, so I wouldn''t recommend this hotel unless you want to go clubbing.

Stayed here for 1 Sunday night in Feb. Found the hotel to be clean, staff very polite & friendly. The room was spacious/clean.
Great location in the city, close to the railway & bus stations. Across the street from the Playhouse Theatre. All in all a great location to base yourself for staying in Edinburgh. Would definitely stay at the hotel if I decide to go back to Edinburgh again. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Dear Tripadvisor member,

Thank you for the great review and for pointing out that Holiday Inn Express - Edinburgh City Centre is close to both St Andrews Sqaure Bus Station and Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station. The hotel does not look like a purpose built Holiday Inn Express as we are located in a listed Georgian building with limited signage. The hotel is on Picardy Place on the north side of the Picardy Place roundabout (opposite the Omni Leisure and Cinema complex).

As you pointed out, the hotel is across the road from the Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre and is a great base for exploring Edinburgh.

I look forward to seeing you at the hotel next time and thank you for taking the time to log in to Tripadvisor and to leave feedback.

Best wishes

Philip

Stayed NY...Dec 30 & 31.

Expensive...£155 a night with cont breakfast....but it seems during Fringe Festival in August they charge a £100 more than that!

Room is functional and comfortable...walls are thin between rooms...we had a crying baby next door.

Drink and snack machines on floor ( we were on 6th), saves you having to go to a shop.

I would probably only pay £65 a night if I was to return. I got a much better deal in Glasgow on wotif.com for a better hotel...however that was Glasgow and it wasnt NY...so I am not sure what this hotel's usual rate is.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about Holiday Inn Express - Edinburgh City Centre.

I am delighted to hear that you will consider using the hotel again. Our prices do change according to the time of year and event, however we do check our room rates against other hotels to try and ensure that the rates are competitive.

The hotel team advises guests that have definate travel plans to choose an advance purchase rate as this is discounted from the best flexible rate and offers value for money. Guests should be aware that the advance purchase rate is pre-charged at the time of booking for all nights and is non-refundable.

Thank you for the feedback in regard to our internet prices. The hotel is now pleased to offer 30-minutes free internet access per room per day via our business centre. This is useful if guests are looking just to check e-mails or print off a boarding pass for a forthcoming flight. Vouchers are available from the hotel Reception.

Many thanks again for taking the time to leave feedback and for choosing to stay at Holiday Inn Express - Edinburgh City Centre.

Thank you for the feedback regarding your stay at Holiday Inn Express - Edinburgh City Centre.

Please accept my apologies if your group was kept awake with city centre noise as it is not the intention of the hotel to cause distress or discomfort to any of our guests. From the review I am unable to check if smoking bedrooms or standard bedrooms with a no smoking preference were booked. I am sorry that the hotel was unable to move you to an alternative bedroom. When guests are making a booking via our on-line system, I would advise them to double check the room type that they are able to reserve as 'standard bedroom' and this mean that the room type is allocated upon check in and cannot be guaranteed.

Our Priority Club Rewards programme offers guests the opportunity to earn points towards free stays, a complimentary Independent Newspaper and a late check out (upon request and subject to avaialability). At Holiday Inn Express all room types offer the same standard of accommodaiton and with regret the hotel is unable to offer up-graded accommodaiton to Priority Club Rewards members or other guests.

Thank you for the feedback about our breakfast buffet and I have passed this across to our breakfast team so that they can review their service provsion.

Thank you again for taking the time and effort to leavel feedback on Tripadvisor.

Kind Regards

We enjoyed staying at this hotel. It is located in a convenient location, just opposite the Edinburgh Playhouse where we went to see a play, a cineplex, and John Lewis Department Store. I was impressed by how well-designed the room is. Everything is functional. The Dove shower cream in the room is a nice touch! The self-service continental breakfast was also good.
