This beautiful building has been restored, by the owners Kim and Andy, to a very high standard. We chose the Clarin because it is situated a 30 minute walk from Edinburgh city centre, has it's own car park behind the house and has free wi-fi available. But we could not have hoped for a warmer welcome from our hosts, who bent over backwards to ensure our stay was memorable for all the right reasons. The room was clean, albeit a little cosy, the big breakfast set us up for the day and we thoroughly enjoyed our three nights there. If we find ourselves up in Scotland again we will definitely stay with Kim and Andy again.

Room Tip: Some rooms are on the second floor so check with Kim before you go if you can't make two floors.

We spent 4 nights in a Doubleroom with our own bathroom. The room is lovely arranged and we had enough space for our stuff and the shoppings ;-)
The room was very clean and comfortable. We had also breakfast which was very delicious with fresh fruits, delicious pancakes and enough toast.

The location is close to a few bus lines going downtown. It takes about 15 minutes to be on South Bridge. The area around the Guest House is quiet and clean. Bars and places to eat are close enough to walk.

Wont be our last stay there.

We have just spent 4 nights in the family room, it isn't large although it is cozy. Couldn't believe how you could actually fit 5 people in the family room. There is just 3 of us and it was perfect. Maybe if you had 2 kids to put in the bunk beds it would work great, I think 5 adults would be stepping on each other. The room is very clean and well keep. Water is nice and hot for shower and the pressure was great for us. We enjoyed having a kettle in our room so we could make tea or coffee as we lived. We usually would take the bus into the city but really enjoyed the walk back home about 1/2 hour. It was easy as it is on the flat. The breakfast we had was lovely although we chose not to have them each morning. Some days we had just a yohurt or a muffin in our rooms.
The gentleman here was very friendly. Loved it and would definitely recommend Clarin Guest House to friends or family.

I am just delighted you had a nice enjoyable stay!
Oh and yes your right about the family room, it is on our booking system for 3 persons only, but can suit 2 adults 1-2 kids or max 3 adults however if we do have a 3rd adult (as was the case with yourself), we put the extra single bed in as we feel the bunks are not suited to adults, I am also glad to hear booking the (room only) option suited you, we find it beneficial as lots of guests do not eat until later in the day, some check out early hours of the morning for early flights/tours and are not here for breakfast, inturn guests are not paying for a service they are not receiving.

Thanks for your comments & your kind words in your review, much appreciated.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Clarin Guest House. Tidy and well decorated with nice breakfasts. We appreciated the owner getting up early one morning to arrange breakfast as we had booked an early tour - we didn't expect this and it was very kind. The friendly and helpful advice went above and beyond - in our three month stay of Europe we rate this in our top ten accommodation picks, thank you! This review is rather belated but we felt it important to comment on just the handful of B&Bs that really stood out as excellent.

P.S. We have carried your pen all around us on our travels before returning to NZ, what a lovely gesture!

We stayed here last November ( sorry taken so long to leave a review), for a few days whilst our son was on Rugby Tour. We had a double room at the top of the house, which was up a quite windy staircase , but not a problem for us . The room itself , was clean and tidy, with an ensuite , and window to rear of house . The bedding was very clean and laundered perfectly, with a lovely smell of conditioner,( dont usually comment on bedding , but it really was clean and fresh ) , we had a full "scottish breakfast" each morning , which was lovely and cooked to order. Our hosts were very friendly and told us all about the local attractions, local bus service etc . We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this as an excellent value B & B , very close (or on the bus route) of all the local attractions .

We had a shared-bath room, which can sometimes be not so good, but we had no problems. The bedroom, toilet, and shower room were all very clean. Andy greeted us upon arrival and was most helpful with directions and information. Breakfast was wonderful and the room is bright and a nice place to enjoy a morning in Edinburgh! A big plus for us was having on-site parking as well as super easy and close access to the bus. Kim and Andy do a great job with their B&B-thanks for a great stay for our first time to Edinburgh!

We spent 3 nights at the Clarin Guest House. Kim and Andy were great!!!!!... very helpful and kind. They made our time visiting their lovely city and country really enjoyable. The house was immaculate and beautiful, the breakfasts were fantastic, the location was perfect. We caught a bus 2 min from the Clarin and we were in the downtown Edinburgh area in 10 minutes. We highly recommend staying at the Clarin Guest House.
