This is a lovely river running approximately 12 miles from Balerno to the harbour at Leith but with very easy access from points along the stretch where you can access local transport when you have done 'enough' walking.Visit the Water of Leith Centre on Slateford Road where there is a small 'hands on' display which all ages will find interesting and the small cafe is very enjoyable (even sell decaff ground coffee). At the centre you can find out about 'events' being held and my grandchildren tackled the making of small boats which they then (with all the other participants) took down to the river to race each other. The event was closely supervised but wellies needed although they do keep a small supply for those who arrive without them!

This is a lovely place to walk to view some very charming buildings, including the village of Dean. Be sure to drop into Stockbridge for a pint, tea or a meal.

We attempted the walk twice during July 2016. The first time from Stockbridge heading south with an intention to go to Colinton. However due to closures we were taken off the path after Dean village and never really got on it again and abandoned the walk. Dean village by the way is one of the prettiest places I have ever seen. The second time we went from Stockbridge to Leith without incident. The walk is fantastic - good pathway easy to follow and you soon forget you are in the middle of a city. A good way to spend an afternoon and get some exercise.

I walked it all way from Balerno to Leith. It was a lovely surprise. A green walkway through the heart of Edinburgh. Easy to find, following the river Leith. You'll feel like walking in the countryside, away from the noises of the city centre, relaxing and quite walking along the quite and silent river. It takes some hours, it's quite long but it definitely deserves. You can get the path from the city centre, near Queensferry road for example or in many other part of the city just walking down from George street toward the river Leith. Unfortunately there are many diversions at the moment and the path is close in many parts. But don't miss it!!!

We used part of this walk to get to Ocean Terminal and Britannia. A much more pleasant walk than walking along busy streets, but there was quite a lot of graffiti and litter in places. The part that we did was push chair friendly.
