Tom Kitchen drew us here but we had not realised that this part of Edinburgh was brunch central on a Sunday lunchtime! Friendly service, simple but delicious food and great relaxed venue. Loved the beef pie.

We had dinner at Scran & Scallie during the Edinburgh portion of a Scotland holiday and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Our server provided excellent and very friendly service -- even though he was clearly busy, he took time to talk to us rather than just taking an order and moving on). We also very much enjoyed our meals. Even though we ate what would be considered "pub food" (fish and chips, steak and ale pie, bangers and mash) all of the food was extremely tasty and well made. They also had a great choice of wines and cocktails for us to enjoy with dinner. When we asked where to get a taxi, they immediately ordered one for us, and let us know at the table when it arrived. In a trip that included a number of "fine dining" meals, the Scran & Scallie was still a standout. PS we had reservations and we highly recommend them.

I just don't get the menu. Mostly pub grub you could get anywhere but some odd combinations. We ended up having fish & chips, OK, but not worth the effort/wait. Nice bottle of viognier, though.
Biggest gripe: Our table. Although we booked 2 months in advance, we were placed at a cramped table next to the toilets with a view right into the disabled toilet, as the door was left open throughout our meal. Not pleasant. Won't be returning. Stockbridge has plenty of way better places to eat.

Booked 4 months in advance. Good service with reminder and friendly, welcoming messages. We were two couples, as we invited our hosts during a stay in Edinburgh. The restaurant was quite full with a vibrant athmosphere on an ordinary Monday evening. Service was attantive and efficient. We had fish and chips - or the Scran & Scallie version of it. Moderte pertion, excellent taste. Super chips. Unfamiliar supplement of small cut pickles replaced the traditional peas. I'd be happy for keeping to tradition. Short, but good menu. Wine started at a quite pricy level, even for us coming from Norway... Summing up, it was absolutely a visit I'd recommend. The wow-factor wasn't quite there, hence the point taken off the top.

I am usually a great fan and since we were given the option to trade our Kitchen lunch vouchers for a meal at the Scran and Scallie (due to lack of availability on dates that worked for us.

So I was looking forward to my lunch with my wife and her brother/sister but sadly today it was a let down in terms of the quality of the cooking. If the meal had not been pre-paid with the vouchers and was a use it or lose it I would have objected to paying for at least 25% of the bill

But everyone I guess can have an off day
