“ Lovely tapas, with flamenco on the side”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013 via mobile

The foot stamping Flamenco classes next door make the perfect backdrop to a meal here.  A hearty selection of tapas for four came to just £50 (although, two bottles of a nice red brought the total to £100!).

Helpful Spanish staff, and the tortilla is not a slice of precooked omelette, but a small whole tortilla freshly made.  Nice!  We’ll be back.

“Authentic tapas in a place with atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

I live just a few minutes away from La Sal and have been meaning to go for some time. We finally took the opportunity when friends were visiting us in Edinburgh, and weren't disappointed. The best dishes were very, very good and nothing was less than good. There's a good selection of wine to accompany it and a more limited selection of beers, spanish and local. It gets very busy and the seating is a bit confined - we were 5 people in a space that would have been comfortable for 3. But the business adds to the atmosphere. The food won't all arrive at the same time, but for tapas that should not be a concern and it wasn't for us. It's reasonable value as well. I will be returning.

“Dance/food vibe in back-street Spain, with out the airfare!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

Alba Flamenca is the Dance Studio, La Sal (previously El Bar under different Restaurant owner) is the Tapas bar/restaurant.

On a flamenco show night, it's a rush of waiting staff & the anticipation of sweat, sinews, and visceral rhythms; otherwise, this is a relaxed wee corner of a small Spanish town. A variety of peasant food (morcilla! Fabada stew, totally unlike school butterbeans from 1970s!), fancier stuff, and La Sal's own wee quirks (the all-day breakfast delight of Huevas Alba Flamenca), all served up by friendly, helpful staff, in English or Spanish as you prefer. A fairly good range for veggies (check they like aubergines, or eggs, or mushrooms), though it's fair to say that's not the focus here - it's not the tradition! If the staff aren't too busy, you'll probably end up chatting with them as they're keen on feedback, and appear to be up for tailoring future menus to the punters they get - at the moment, a mix of locals, dancers, musicians, tourists, and homesick Spaniards. If you get involved in a chat, you may find a free drink comes your way too (it's twice happened to us) I liked the fact that there were lots of "regulars" here, so it doesn't feel like another anonymous Embra eatery.
We've been here 3 or 4 times now, and will go back. Last time, we took friends with a wee kid - it was 5pm, very quiet, and our kid ended up away playing with the charming daughter of the owner (bonus for all the adults!) - not all of Embra is this child-friendly!!

“Best Tapas Outside Spain”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

Visited La Sal twice during the Fringe in August 2013 and looking forward to going again the next time we visit Edinburgh. The food is prepared to order so it's always hot, plenty of dishes to choose from (even for veggies) and the wine is to die for. If you can take in a flamenco performance as well do - it all adds to the feel of being in Spain.
