“It's now my new local”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

As I walked past this little indie cafe I noticed they use Allpress Espresso and from previous positive experience's from Allpress I thought I'd give these guys a go. Service was friendly and the Barista's there were well up for some good chat. I ordered a piccolo latte and it was pretty much as perfect as you can get in my opinion. Castello are a great addition to the small coffee scene in Edinburgh and are definitely well worth a visit.

“superb coffee...”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

....possibly the best in Edinburgh (without question the best on the street, but admittedly thats not saying a lot). Enjoyed the new Allpress roast. Friendly, professional and laid back staff.

Give the corporate chains a swerve and support an independent place that is deserving of your custom.

“Great Tea/Coffee, Friendly Staff”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

Tea was delicious- proper leaf tea- not the dried shredded stuff.
Coffee great.
They also had a big selection of lovely cakes and sandwiches and a very nice soup of the day.

Staff were very friendly and service great.

The shop is just off Princes Street; and with some tables and chairs outside, you can sit and watch the world go by with Edinburgh Castle in the background.

The food and drinks are miles better than any of the chain coffee shops, and cheaper too!

“Soup with a kick, coffee with a smile”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

In a small corner of Edinburgh, a lone shop struggles against the might of corporate coffee culture, striving to provide that rarest of things in Edinburgh... a decent cup of coffee! (and their tea isn't half bad either)
Nestled away at the foot of Castle Street, is a teeny weeny coffeeshop, providing honestly wonderful coffee, and quite frankly, the best value lunch in town. Home made soup every day, along with yummy home baked goodies (try the millionaire's shortbread) to temp the most virtuous.
Finally, a word on the staff... To a man, they are a cheery, warm, friendly, welcoming bunch, who actually seem to care whether you have a good time or not)
To summarise: great coffee, excellent nibbles, wonderful soup (oh and sandiwches as well) and a fantastic atmosphere. Yes, I rather like the place, go and see if you do too.
