“VERY POOR FOOD AND SERVICE RIPP-OFF!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2013

My daughter and I were the first to arrive at the restaurant and yet we still waited ages on our food. We ordered a full breakfast each with coffee and tea. When my coffee arrived, I asked for a sweetener rather than sugar as I am diabetic. The waitress just advised me they only had white sugar. Then after waiting ages for the breakfast, the bacon was ice cold - as if it had come directly out a fridge, beans luke warm and toast without butter! (THEY SAID THEY HAD NO BUTTER - CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, A RESTAURANT WITH NO BUTTER??) By this time we had enough and decided to leave after complaining to the manager. What annoys me more is the massive price increases. When a restaurant promotes a NEW menu, it is just another way of putting it's prices up. In fact, the breakfast used to cost £4.95, it has now jumped a whopping 30% plus up to £6.45 - how can that be justified?
Previously, we had visited this restaurant and there were tell tale signs then, so we should have known better, but we wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. On our previous visit our steak was sent back twice as it was tough as old boots, so we asked for a burger instead with no bbq sauce or mayo. Guess what bbq sauce all over it, sent back again, burger had mayo all over it, sent back again and I felt it was the same burger as there was a little mayo on the edge. Waiting nearly two hours throughout all this, trained chimps could do better than these kitchen staff masquerading as chefs - my daughter could produce superior food. Even when they are wrong or keep you waiting they never compensate you with a drink or something! Definately, will never be back! Half price food on a Monday (your'e having a laugh!) just the same price you would pay elsewhere for normal prices.

“Very slow service.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

Went for an evening meal for four. Although the table was booked, still had quite a wait for it. A couple in front of us got fed up waiting and left!
The initial table service was very quick (bordering on too quick). The meal itself was very nice (Steaks) but the Thai Green Curry tasted like it was a "Boil in the bag" one.
Thankfully we did not want a Sweet as nobody came back to ask if we wanted one!
Asked for a cup of coffee at 10.45pm and was told, "The coffee machine gets switched off at 10.30pm"!!! but got a cup of tea.
Have been 3/4 times before for drinks, and had no complaints.

“Glad it was a monday”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

Half price food on a Monday. Service slow in fact those at next table left after waiting for food for 30 minutes. Food terrible. Luke warm and not even worth half price. There are dozens of better places nearby

“Chaotic service, really hit or miss”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Arrived at 5pm on a Monday having previously taken advantage of their half price food on Mondays offer. Was expecting slow service as Mondays are always busy but tonight was ridiculous.

By 5.30 had to ask to get our order taken. 6.30 and the 3 tables near us that all arrived after us had their starters and mains. Had to ask for our starters, and by the time they arrived 2 of those tables had paid and left. Does it really take an hour to prepare bread and olives? By 7 the other table had also gone but we'd at least had our mains so asked for the bill. At 7.30, had to ask again.

When the bill arrived it included a side that I'd ordered but had run out in the hour it took them to bring our food out so we hadn't got it, but by that point couldn't be bothered waiting any longer for them to take it off so paid and went. Was sorely tempted to leave without paying after such a disasterous evening.

Don't bother if you have anywhere to be in the next couple of hours (days?)

“Best fish & chips & on Mondays half price food all day superb !!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

I have visited this outlet next to the playhouse & the one in York city centre, I have had the hand battered fish & chips in both places & it really is some of the best I have had anywhere, really crispy batter & large soft tasty flakes of fish. If you visit on Mondays all food is half price so grab a bargain !!
