“ROOMS NEEDING RENOVATED”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

Why does this hotel use rooms that are in a bad state of repair when they know that they are going to get a bad review, we booked 1 night stay to see what the hotel was like as some of the reviews were good and others right awful, We were right in booking only the one night even though we needed 2 nights in Edinburgh, any one booking should state that they want a renovated room. The staff were great .

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before signing in

Weekend in Edinburgh and had a lovely stay in the hotel.

This was due to booking the suite which was fantastic, and the staff were very helpful especially calling me in advance asking when arriving so the room champagne was fresh out of the fridge upon arrival!
General state of the hotel was rather run down, however this was when the suite was the only refurbished room, this may no longer be the case.
20-30 minute walk to city centre but was fine for us

Hi Gordon M

Many thanks for taking the time to talk about your recent visit to the hotel, we are as you say going through a refurbishment of the hotel and we have recently completed more rooms that more than match the quality you experienced.

I am glad our team were able to match the room quality with service and look forward to seeing you again soon

Regards

Stayed at the Murrayfield to attend an event at the Ice Arena. This is a Hotel of 2 halfs. We booked a Deluxe room in the House which is a short walk away from the main Hotel. The room was very attractive with some lovley quirky features. Spotlessly clean and well furnished. All mod cons were provided, with beautiful glasses and interesting silver items for hanging your jackets etc. Style over practicallity was a disappointing feature, for instance super selection of tea, coffee items but very small cups provided to put items in them, tea pot was huge for one teabag. Rain shower was lovley but took about 5 minutes before hot water ran to it. Room we had was at front of the building and could benefit from double/secondary glazing to keep out traffic noise.

Breakfast was fine but not exceptional. A special mention must be for the staff, they could not of been more friendly and helpful, they are a great asset to the Hotel.

Overall as long as you book into the house rather than the Hotel which I believe will improve as they are currently refurbishing this, it is a very good place to stay. If it is refurbished to a similar standard as the house they will do very well.

The location is perfect for a short visit to Edinburgh and although we did not have dinner in the Hotel the food that was being served looked high quality.

We travelled with our 11 year old child and the Hotel provided us with a bed in the our room, this was a super bed and not the usual thin foldaway that has been provided in other places.

The Hotel also comes with free parking unlike others in area, it is on the main bus route to town and the zoo.

Ladies are well catered for with good toiletries and excellent hair styling items, ironing board etc were also provided in room, Wi-Fi access is free and a neat little ipod docking station is there.

Would recommend this Hotel to others.

Room Tip: Book the House rather than the Hotel, ask for a room away from the main road, pillows are hard so if...

Hi Alexandra089

I am glad you enjoyed your recent visit to the hotel and that we were able to look after you and your family, our new rooms are fantastic and the staff will always go out of their way for you. I hope you visist us again soon and are able to see the hard work we continue to put in paying off.

The hair care products certainly put a smile on the faces of the ladies but I have to admit its the tv mirror that does it for me!!!

Thanks again

This is the first time I have used this hotel, Debbie on front desk was so helpful and friendly. We had two refurbished rooms which were first class. We ate in the bar, the haggis, neeps and tatties were deel-ish. Bar staff were also lovely. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and look forward to my return on my next visit to Edinburgh. Keep up the good work.

Room Tip: ask for the refrubed rooms and they are not all finished yet.

Stayed overnight in room 305 in the newly refurbished Murrayfield House. The room itself was fantastic with a very comfy bed. We also had breakfast delivered to the room, brilliant as the restaurant is in the main hotel, was a little touch of luxury.

The staff were also lovely. Very friendly and recommended a great restaurant for dinner. Would love to stay again next time we're in Edinburgh

we stayed for one night in this hotel....we chose this hotel because it had car parking and was close to the Murrayfield stadium. on arrival we realised that the car park was closed off. when we asked at the reception we were told they dont have car parking facilities during rugby games and as there was a game the following day it was closed off...we had to go find a parking space in a residential street nearby. we went up to our room and on the way up i noticed telephone cables lying on the corridor carpet.. the room was a disappointment too...threadbare carpet, chipped furniture, mould/mildew around the bath, rusty windows and dirty netting at the window....the double bed was two singles pushed together which we could barely squeeze by...never again...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel

To address the car parking issue we endevour to contact our guests to advise them of the restriced parking during large scale Murrayfield Stadium events, and I apologise we were unable to make contact with yourselves, we do have 2 over flow carparks but unfortunately we are unable to police who parks there and as such they can fill very quickly.

We have recently started a renovation programme here at the hotel and the refurbished rooms are quite stunning. Should you wish to return to Edinburgh please contact myself directly here at the hotel and I will arrange for you to stay in one of our refurbished rooms to help re build your faith in the hotel

Kind Regards

stayed here for rugby weekend. firstly arrived at room door and tropped on threadbare carpet covered with duct tape. room was gorgeous but for £350 for 2 nights it should have been. no toilet roll in room, bottle of cleaning stuff lying on floor. wrong key given meaning lights wouldnt switch on, given a sheet for info for a sat stay in march...... massive draft came in rotten windows. went for breakfast served by someone who seemed to be very stressed... no toast.... machine broken, no juices left in jugs at 9am.... decided to have evening meal soup and no bread, main course good but not offered sweet.... mon am breakfast. toast machine working but had to ask for toast breakfast finished then toast arrived. loads od people in on rugby day politely said to receptionist your having a busy day... reply was just a normal one... yeah right finally no manner.....

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel

We are sorry to hear of your issues with us here. We do try to make sure that we are well prepared for busy days and try our best to ensure everyone enjoys there stay with us. We do tend to be very busy on rugby days but that is no excuse for short falls in service. We will make sure that this is re visited at our next training session

If you are ever thinking of returning please do get intouch direct and we will make sure you have a lovely stay with us.

Kind Regards
