We stayed 3 nights.it was definitly good and fun. Great location, its heart of the old town. All the staff were very helpfull and friendly. The cafe inside is cheap and delicious. They have daily free city walking tour which was very good.

We stayed in a four girls dorm. Beds are creaky and you can hear people partying from the street all through the night. But the staff is so friendly and helpful you'll over look the minor imperfections and have an awesome time. It is a 5 minute walked to all main attractions. The hostel even offers free pub-crawls and tours.

Very good location, close to the night life of Edinburgh and only a 10 minute walk away from the Main Street.

Good priced food and drinks at the bar.

Bar staff aren't so friendly but reception staff are great.

Be prepared to make your own bed up, thought this was a bit steep considering the cost of the hostel.

Overall good stay clean bathrooms and rooms.

If your staying on the left hand side of the hostel can be very loud on the weekend up to 6 am so try and get the other side if you can.

We booked a 4 bedroom with 3 other friends and it was very cosy. The staff is very nice, they have a luggage room where we can put our bags for the day at only £1 and the stuff is locked with a key which is very secure and cheap.
The only thing is that the girls bathroom wasn't very clean late at night and early in the morning, and there wasn't any place to put pus stuff when having a shower.
Apart from that I recommend it!
They organize a free guided tour of the city and lots of different activities at night. Very good value.

While this wasn't the nicest hostel I have stayed in, this is great for a traveler on a budget. Overall, the facility was nice. Not sure when they get around to actually cleaning the dorm rooms. We arrived to a dirty sink and interesting stains on the mattress cover. However, sheets were freshly laundered. We stayed in a 4 woman room. The walking tour was nice - however, using a guidebook you can have just as good (or better) tour. We also took part in the "pub crawl". As most of the hostel staff are not Scottish, it made for an interesting night of tourist bars. - Again, something I could have accomplished on my own. Since the hostel is located in the grassmarket area, there are lots of pub-goers at night. It can make for a difficult night's sleep. During the night, we heard loud door slamming and laughter, however I think this is typical of a hostel. The location is superb - just across the street from Greyfriars and located in the Grassmarket area. We walked EVERYWHERE - don't buy a bus pass.

Room Tip: We only stayed in the 4-woman dorm. Therefore, I can only comment on this room. It was okay as far as hostels go.
