“Needs to be more Friendly”
Reviewed November 15, 2011

Should probably have looked at this site before booking, there was very little interaction with the owners other than to give us the keys and take them off us when we left, though the lady who served breakfast was friendly and efficient.

It has to be the smallest bedroom I've ever slept in and the en suite was very small, quite claustrophobic. The bed was ok but the pillows were not too good, first nights sleep was not good but too tired to care the second night.

It is quite a distance to the nearest place to eat on a night so be prepared for drive or a walk if you're hungry though there are some local shops. On a night there is no place to sit other than the bedroom which isn't the best in a small room.

Would think twice about staying again.

The owner only spoke to us to hand us our keys on arrival telling repeatedly that the place is non smoking despite being told repeatedly that my friend and I were both non smokers, and then again to take our keys off of us on leaving.

The bed and pillows were of shockingly poor quality. Would have been more comfortable to sleep in a bath! The whole atmosphere of the place is dated and there is a musty smell on the stairs and in the room I occupied. The grout in the shower cubicle/box was grubby and the insulating cable on the kettle, which smelled when boiled, was rather thin in places.

Breakfast was adequate, but do not have the scrambled eggs as they are nuked in the microwave until rubbery, nor choose the sausages, which were highly seasoned and cheap. Plates were cold, bacon pre cooked and rather chewy and cold on arrival.

At no point was any enquiry made as to our comfort, or if there was anything that could be done to make our stay more welcome. There is no lounge area for guests to sit, though on entering the property one can see the owners luxuriating in their own lounge which is marked private. The only seating provided for guests is two chairs plunked in a narrow hallway at the foot of the stairs and beside the main door.

In summary, this place should really be a last resort for anyone.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere. The guys who own this place ought to take the criticisms seriously. You DO NOT provi...

We stayed in this hotel during the August bank holiday weekend. The hotel is located about 40 mins walk from the Waverly train station. It's well connected with the town centre by local busses. The rooms are very spacious. Bathroom is small but big enough for a short stay. The level of cleanliness was quite poor. There was mould on the shower head and an old hard soap probably left after by the previous visitor. The TV in the room was one of the cheapest and had no remote control. There were a lot of mirrors on the walls and doors that was a nice touch. But overall the place felt unloved and only the bare minimum was provided. Breakfast was served in a nice and warm front room between 8 and 9 am. Again, the time seems more convenient for the staff rather than visitors. The staff at the breakfast seemed tired and stressed. Not really what you want to see during your break. The breakfast was fine but again the sausages served were one of the cheapest. The tea making facilities were available in the room without teaspoons. The place felt unloved and as it was a chore for the owner to keep it running. We would not recommend this hotel and would not be coming back.

The day begins with a freshly prepared breakfast, served by the ladies that keep the guest house in order. They are cheerful as they swiftly move about, pausing only to ensure every guest has what they need to get their day started. There is so much to see in Edinburgh, my days were filled with excursions to the Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Botanic Garden, the Royal Yacht Britannia, and many other sights, all within walking distance if you are so inclined to make a day hike of it as I have been. And with the day full of sight-seeing, it's been especially fantastic to come home to a well made up room. This has been a truly wonderful get-away and that is largely due to the accommodations and staff at the Heriott Park Guest House.

Room Tip: If you don't object to stairs, the rooms on the upper floors offer the best view.

We arrived at the guest house and were disappointed with the size of our room, you could just about walk around the beds. The ensuite was dated with a 3 part sliding door on the shower, well I think it used too slide now it had to be lifted and coaxed into position. We had half a roll of toilet paper which my wife had to go and ask for more when it ran out. She was handed another roll which was replenished when it ran out. The beds were creaky and uncomfortable with extremey thin pillows. Breakfast was rushed and basic but did the job but the serving time slot of 1 hour 8-9am was poor. Our room and landing stank of smoke. The place was clean but dated. Parking was on the pavment accross a busy road. The 23 bus service was excellent.

We stayed here as the cheapest late-availability option we could find for the Edinburgh festival. Apparently it is walkable to the center, but we never needed to find out as the buses are excellent. One Bus stop (23 bus) very close, and another a couple of minutes further away which is on the same bus route (23) plus also on another (27) for even more choice. We had a 5 Bedroom room for a family which was spacious and clean. Good view of Edinburgh castle in the distance - particularly when fireworks going off. For Breakfasts we got a very good cooked breakfast with option of porridge and staff were happy to bring a jug of hot chocolate for the kids. Internet PC available. Cafe, pub, and variety of restaurants a few minutes walk away. Staff were very friendly and let us leave luggage there on checkout day. It is next to a busy road but we had windows open most of time and did not find road noise a problem. Great weekend break.

We stayed at Merriot on a three day break in edinburgh for the fringe festival. We found it in an ideal postion for traveling and the buses were excellant.Although it was a good stay the hospitality was informal and rushed. We thought the decor needed updating as there was wallpaper was coming off and the toilet seat needed replacing because it was damaged. The mattreses were very uncomfortable as you could feel the springs coming through which made it a very uncomfortable night.
