“Great Location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

I stayed at the Apex International with my boyfriend for one night last September. I thought the hotel was absolutely fantastic; the staff were really friendly and took the time to point out where everything was for us on a map. The room was lovely and spacious, my only complaint would be that the decor was maybe a tad tired and it could have done with a fresh coat of paint! But this really was a minor point and overall the room was very comfortable. The swimming pool was lovely although we did struggle to find it as we couldn't see any signs for it and we ended up going to the staff bit by accident.

The location really was the best part of the hotel for us; right in the centre of Grassmarket everything was within walking distance which makes the hotel a great base to explore Edinburgh. There were so many bars and restaurants nearby that we were completely spoilt for choice! For me, the only reason why the Apex didn't get 5 stars was because of the price of the car parking, I did find £12 a day quite expensive considering what we had already paid for the rooms. Overall though we had a brilliant stay and would definitely come back!

Spacious and well-presented public areas, stylish and comfortable surroundings, and very friendly helpful staff. A manager changed our faulty lock there and then, having offered a move if we preferred! Outside the hotel is so close to all the interesting buildings of central Edinburgh - including idiosyncratic shops and pubs. But best was the wonderful view of Edinburgh Castle directly opposite - not just from our room, but whilst floating in the delicious deserted early-morning swimming pool on the ground floor.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor and looking directly at the Castle

Ideally situated, and everything (more or less) is within walking distance. The view of the castle from the restaurant on the top floor is magnificent. The staff is highly professional, very friendly and service-minded. The food is excellent, the rooms are nice and comfortable. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone going to Edinburgh!"

This hotel ticks all the boxes for a stay in central Edinburgh.
The Grassmarket is a lively place to visit and what better than to have a good hotel on your doorstep.
Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean and if you book early, the hotel doesn't "charge like a wounded rhino"...
Never got the chance to test the restaurant, but the staff were courteous and attentive, especially those I dealt with at reception and bar area.
Take a chance and make your own mind up, but I found it worthwhile....

The hotel is ideally situated to many good places to eat and drink and is walking distance to the Edinburgh Castle. The staff is helpful, cheerful and polite. There is a restful spa, a convenient bar and lounge area.

Room Tip: The restaurant faces the Edinburgh Castle

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel and everything went ok. The room was clean, the bed really comfy, the bathroom was huge (we had a shower and a separate bath tub). It's well located, less than 10 minutes walk from the main street. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs just opposite the hotel, but it was still quiet in the room. The breakfast didn't impress us much and we just had it on the first day. The other days we had breakfast somewhere in town.

Stayed here for 2 nights in April 2013 and enjoyed it just fine. The room had two comfortable double beds, and a great view of the castle out the front. the shower and loo was fine, maybe a bid of unclean grout, but i've seen worse. a big tv and a room safe, hairdryer etc, tea/coffee. the bar stayed open til 5am one night. the location is good, 5 pubs across the road, and close enough for entertainment. i had no complaints. brekfast was nice. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for the front for a view of the castle and street
