“Makes a great city greater”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Our enjoyment of Edinburgh was thoroughly enhanced by our stay here. The property is well located and an easy walk into the city. The rooms are spacious and quiet with everything of a first class standard.
However, what makes Gerald's Place is Gerald. Always interested, warm and accommodating he offers excellent advice on how to make best use of your time in the city (there is plenty to do particularly if you are only staying a few days) and is always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Set your standards high when you visit and see them escalated. Many guests houses provide wifi, Gerald will provide you with use of a laptop. You might expect tea and coffee facilities Gerald provides these as well as fine Whisky (well you are in Scotland) and a wine of your choice (if white keep suitably chilled in the fridge provided). You may expect there to be complementary shampoo; Gerald provides a store for your every need (I had a slight cold and was expecting to purchase cold relief - this was provided as well as many other high quality toiletries)
The reviews speak for themselves and we both look forward to returning. Many thanks Gerald!

Gerald's Place is a a fantastic place to stay in Edinburgh. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights (a gift from my parents who had stayed there previously) and we couldn't have felt more welcome or happier during our stay.
Gerald is extremely accommodating to every need and even gave us complimentary wine. The room was very pleasant with every possible need accounted for (including a good selection of medicines which proved invaluable when my husband got a cold!).
The breakfasts were delicious and Gerald offered many of his own creations including muesli and bread. Particular orders for breakfast were taken and extra treats like smoothies were given. The table allowed you to meet the other occupants and it had a very homely feel.
Advice was freely given and many brochures and guides for local attractions were available to borrow during your stay. It is also in walking distant of both the old and new parts of the city.
I think the best parts of our stay (apart from the great attractions to visit of course!) were the fantastic stories Gerald shared. It is definitely worth a stay just for those!

I had the most wonderful stay at Gerald's place, and will hopefully be able to return soon. Me and my friends stayed in the utmost comfort, welcomed into the B&B with warmth and joy, increasing the enjoyment of the trip massively. The rooms were spacious and very well kept, with amazingly comfortable beds. Best of all was Gerald himself, who gave us delicious breakfasts and wonderful entertainment and conversation. There could not have been a better or more beautiful place to stay, thank you so much for having us Gerald. Definitely the best B&B in Edinburgh!

This is no ordinary B & B - this is Gerald's Place - a truly special experience.

Even though Gerald's Place has only two guest rooms, the level of comfort and facilities in the rooms and bathrooms are first-class, with surprising treats of wine, whiskey and chocs (much appreciated,Gerald) which you would not find in larger establishments. And coupled with the genuine concern shown by Gerald to ensure his guests enjoy every comfort at "his place" makes for a wonderful stay.

Breakfast with Gerald is another experience - prepared and served by Gerald himself - whatever you wish, he will do and ALWAYS with a smile.

The location of Gerald's Place is perfect for the heart of Edinburgh, all within easy walking distance.

Over the years of running his B & B, Gerald must have made many friends and we came away hoping we were two of them. He is so lovely, as is "his place"!

Room Tip: Both rooms exceptional.

My husband and I traveled with another couple to Edinburgh last week and stayed at Gerald's Place for 4 nights. We couldn't have had a better experience. Gerald's home is lovely, and our rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet with all conveniences. Every available wall space is decorated with his amazing collection of art, chief among them are several very good pastels of his grandchildren. The breakfasts were outstanding, prepared lovingly by Gerald himself. But the best part of Getald's Place is Getald himself. He is very knowledgeable, generous, funny, and kind. A real gentleman. Stay here. You will not be disappointed.

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Scotland again and friend of mine recommended Gerald's Place. It was like staying with a favorite uncle. Gerald was up early every morning and fixed us a wonderful breakfast of cold as well as hot food. All made to order. His rooms are far better than a hotel and have a cozy feel. The beds were amazing with fine quality linens.

Gerald not only has complementary coffee in each room but a flask of fine Scotch Whisky to welcome you to Scotland!. Gerald goes out of his way to help you with reservations, directions and even coordinating taxi service if desired. His B&B is walking distance from the Royal Mile and many stores on Princess Street.

I can guarantee you I will be staying with Gerald the next time I travel to Edinburgh, if he is not already fully booked.

Me and my wife recently went on a holiday to Edinburgh and stayed for three nights at Gerald's Place. It was an wonderful and pleasant experience. Location wise very convenient, we could walk across to places easily. Mr Gerald played a perfect host and we have found a new friend in him. He was affectionate and helpful to see Edinburgh and parts of Scotland. Looking forward for another visit and also to have a long chat with Gerald on the breakfast table.
