I was extremely fortunate to stay at Number 29 for four nights. The house has been beautifully renovated, and is both inviting and relaxing. Although only a short distance from Princes Street, the house is located in a quiet neighbourhood with cute shops and good restaurants close by.
I stayed in room 3 (on the third floor) and room 1 (on the first floor). Both bedrooms have incredibly comfortable beds and bed linens, with bathrooms that wouldn't be out of place in the top design magazines. Room 1 is exquisite with a sitting room (complete with sofa, chaise and large glass-topped desk) and a marvellous view of the cathedral across the street; in contrast, room 3 is quite cozy with an extremely comfortable reading chair and a view of Edinburgh Castle in the distance. The breakfasts were delicious - organic fruit trays, stewed fruit, homemade muesli and granola, and porridge and - if you had room - a hot cooked breakfast.
To top it off, Corinne and Simon are the perfect hosts. But for them, I wouldn't have set out exploring sights and shops off the beaten path and so got to see a side of Edinburgh that many tourists rarely see. I look forward to returning to Edinburgh - and to staying again with Corinne and Simon.
