“Quietly and peaceful”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Quietly and peaceful, as well as always in the Premier Inn. Fine arrangement of hotel - directly opposite to the Edinburgh Castle. If you get number with windows on the street, you will have a wonderful view of the Castle.
Fine beds, ideal purity in hotel, good breakfasts.

Room Tip: All rooms are identical, but some are with a fine view of the Edinburgh Castle.

I have been to the hotel twice.
The rooms are very good and the beds very comfortable.
The hotel has an excellent location with close proximity to almost everything in Edinburgh and just across the bus stops.
However, when we wanted to buy a bottle of water the receptionist told us we could and we should use the vending machine. This is not appropriate for a 4 star hotel.
Further to that, upon arrival we requested a late check-out and albeit the receptionist said it was OK when we arrived at the hotel to pack our bags they were already removed from the room which I found unacceptable.

Room Tip: All rooms are comfortable

I have stayed in many Premier Hotels and this one is by far the best. The staff are incredibly friendly (especially Sara and Colum) and the hotel is in a perfect location overlooking the castle.

We had a castle view room and watched in delight as dusk fell and the lights came on illuminating the castle. However, there is some noise at the front so choose a non-castle room if you want to avoid hearing the occasional drunk in the night.

The hotel overlooks Princess Street Gardens, which are very well maintained. We spent hours just sitting in the sunshine. Princess Street itself is only open to buses and taxies so falls quiet at night.

Edinburgh is marvellous. Turn left out of the hotel and walk up to the art gallery. Cross the bridge behind the art gallery and up some steps to the Old Town. This is the Royal Mile which is fascinating.

Breakfast was very good and unhurried. Evening meals were also good. The wine is fairly expensive for what it is. The staff seem to have to do all jobs and seem to work very hard. On the two occasions that we had trouble with the broadband, the staff dealt with the problem patiently.

Overall, the hotel is very good value for money and is an oasis of a calm welcome in a busy city. We shall certainly stay here again as it is in such a perfect location.

Room Tip: Castle view rooms have a wonderful view (as does the bar and restaurant). The only downside of a cas...

We stayed two nights at the Premier Inn Edinburgh Ciry Centre in May 2013. It is located in Princes Street in the New Town, close to most of the attractions of Edinburgh. The location was our main reason for booking this hotel. Another reason was the relative cheap price.

Our room was relatively small, but it was clean and had a comfortable bed.

We were very satisfied with the hotel breakfast. From the bar/restaurant there is a lovely view against the stunning Edinburgh castle.

The Premier Inn is not a luxury hotel, but it has very good quality compared to the price.

You can easily miss The Premier Inn on Princess St as the entrance is between two shops with a lift to reception on the first floor. We had a quiet room to the rear which is exactly what we expected ,clean and well presented. The only downside was the cooked breakfast which was only lukewarm at best. When leaving we mentioned this at reception and the cost was refunded without any question. Good service. Would stay there again without any question as the position is perfect.

After a bad experience at Premier Inn Waterloo, we were quite weary of checking into another premier inn, but we were delighted with this one. We had a castle view room (Room # 911) which overlooked the princes street and gardens across the road.

Firstly, the location is excellent. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Edinburgh. Its right on Princes street, with ample eateries, shopping, bus stops , and yet at the quieter end of the road. It overlooks the beautiful Princes Street Gardens, and it would be great fun jut to sit on one of the benches and see the world go by.

We also had a nice big and clean room with a nice bathroom. The room had castle view and overlooked the lively princes street and yet no noise from the traffic. We slept like babies. The reception staff was also helpful and supportive.

The hotel is very close to weaverly station which was an added bonus for us. (Though it does take about 10 minutes walk). It was also convenient to go to the weaverly bridge for taking the Hop On Hop Off Bus Tours.

All in all , a great hotel in a great location. I would strongly recommend it.

Room Tip: As others have said, the castle view room are excellent. Do ask for them, though they have limited a...

I'd never stayed in a Premier Inn, and I'm not usually one for staying in budget chains. However, we booked a place in the Edinburgh 10k quite late on and when searching for something not too far away from the train station this seemed the perfect fit.

It's only a 10 minute walk away from the station (with luggage!) and bang on the busy Princes Street. The hotel reception/restaurant/lounge area has a lovely view towards the castle. We checked in quite late around 9pm so the reception desk wasn't manned but we used the extremely easy and quick check-in machines, and whilst using these a lady came out to check we were OK. I had received an email a few days earlier from Premier Inn asking what time we were expected to arrive and directions on how to get to the hotel. I had requested a castle view room, and they said they'd do their best. Considering I was using a check-in machine at 9pm I didn't expect this request to be met but to our surprise it was and our room had a great view of the castle.

The room itself was clean, plain and basic. The bed was very comfortable with a good choice of pillows. Wi-fi is free for 30 mins, after that there's a very small charge that seems to be much cheaper than other hotels I have stayed in. The bathroom was also clean, there is handwash and a bodywash provided in bottles attached to the wall.

We don't usually pay to eat breakfast in hotels but on the first morning we had to be up at 7am for breakfast ready for our run up arthur's seat so we went downstairs and were nicely surprised. The member of staff who greeted us was so cheerful and he explained the breakfast area to us. The breakfast itself was great especially considering the price, again it's much cheaper than the standard hotel prices. We ended up having breakfast in the hotel again on the second morning.

The hotel felt safe. There is a lift from street level to the reception area, then the lift to the rooms requires a keycard. However, you can just wander up the stairs without a keycard! There are also vending machines with a good selection of snacks, not too badly priced.

We slept well, though there is street noise which was to expected really overlooking princes street. There's traffic and drunken people wandering past all night long. So you may want to consider this if requesting a castle view room.

The staff we encountered on our trip were incredibly friendly and polite. They put a lot of other hotels to shame including the bigger chains such as Hilton.

I would stay in this hotel again on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Castle view rooms can be noisy
