“Good Hotel near Parliament”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

The Holyrood Hotel isa bit outside the centre, but still in walking distance to most locations. The service is very friendly at the reception and ok in the restaurant.

The rooms are fine and spacious. Depending where our window is facing , most rooms are quiet.
You find all you need, amenities by Apothecary included, a TV and free internet. The beds are comfortable, everything clean. There is a room safe, a coffee/tea pot and a mini bar.

The breakfast is usually included in the rate and you will find a nice selection os most what people want to eat in the morning. Eggs are freshly prepared for you.

The fitness center in the basement is open only from 8am to 8pm. The pool is large and nice. The showers and other parts like some walls are pretty old and shabby. Needs urgently renovation !

Please note that whilst this is a generally positive review - it is for the wrong hotel completely!! Unfortunately we do not have a pool but our gym is open 24hrs a day!

Arrived here with friends for an overnight stay as we were being tourists for a night and day. We booked our 2 bed apartment on line, 24 hours in advance, with secure overnight parking at an extra cost of £10 - great value. From check-in to check-out, both reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Our apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. Two queen bedded rooms, one with en suite, the other with bathroom next door so private - both bathrooms are small but functional, with great showers. The furniture is functional and basic, rather than luxurious. The only negative I had was the firmness of the queen bed. For me, it was like lying on a brick and very uncomfortable so I did not get a good night's sleep! Perhaps a mattress topper would solve this problem? The pillows were disappointing too.... flat, not fluffy, and also very hard.... what would it cost to invest in some decent feather pillows? This is an absolutely perfect location for anyone wishing to spend time in the "old town" - The Royal Mile - and city centre area. Great pubs and restaurants and steeped in Scottish history. I would certainly use this location again, and highly recommend it to anybody wishing to stay - well priced and very quiet at night, but do think about new mattresses and pillows or certainly mattress toppers - please.

Overall a very encouraging review but I was saddened to read that the guest found our bed uncomfortable. We have just replaced the majority of our beds and believed that we were now sitting with an inventory of completely comfortable ones - please let me know which one we missed.

Enormous well equipped apartment for a good price. We had failed to note the fine details of parking but the sraff couldn't have been more helpful in sorting it out for us. A great place to explore Edinburgh on foot from. We visited Arthur's Seat each morning in lieu of a gym.

Four of us rented one of the apartments before departing on a 15 day Scotland/Ireland tour. We were perfectly located just minutes off the Royal Mile, being closer to the palace than the castle. We could walk out the door through one of the closes and be right on Cannongate and walk anywhere or catch our bus. The rooms were clean and a little small, but not for European standards. We had a full kitchen which was great for a quick breakfast. We even found a liter of milk in the frig. How cool is that. If you book through the hotel itself, you have a free breakfast hamper the first day. We booked through Expedia, so didn't have the hamper. Front desk staff was most responsive during our stay as well as before our arrival. You can't beat the price for, this unit as other hotels in City Center Edinburgh seemed quite expensive.

Room Tip: First floor is for smoking, but all others are non smoking. We had a neat view out our window. We...

Wow- what a fantastic review - many thanks to this guest. May I also re-iterate this reviewer's point about booking directly with the hotel - not only do we supply a Breakfast Hamper which we can top up throughout your stay - but you are also guaranteed the very best rate.

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment, which included seperate bathroom and shower room. Everything was perfectly clean and the apartment had everything we needed. The staff were pleasent and helpful. The location was the main reason for booking, 10min walk from the station, 2mins to high street and holyrood house. Some reviews mentioned the water pump, but we didnt find it to disturbing. We stayed in room 501 and would stay again.

Room Tip: ask for higher floor rooms

Everything was well-appointed and clean. Beds were very comfy indeed. The complimentary jams, bread, oat cakes, butter, Philadelphia cheese, cereals and milk were a great welcome, too.

We had no problems during our stay apart from one thing: we arrived by car to find that the car parking we had assumed was included and free had to be booked in advance and was £10 per day. The car park was full on the day of our arrival so we had to park in the nearby NCP (£14 per day). We were able to reserve a space for the second day of our stay. It was a minor inconvenience, but something that could've been avoided if we'd known when booking.

I would recommend this place for its location, cleanliness and comfort. We will stay again!

(We stayed in room 502; our party consisted of four adults in one double room and one twin room.)

We stayed in their penthouse for 2 nights with 4 people. The complimentary parking that comes with the Penthouse was inexplicably unavailable and we were forced to use the NCP up the road at £14 per night. On arriving, there is no obvious drop off or parking outside so one of our party went to ask where to park only to be told she couldn't talk to him about that until she had swiped his credit card - never heard anything so stupid. When we did get in the apartment was okay, athough the kitchen was very small and only one person could use it at once. The en-suite shower cubicle was also very small. The toatser didn't work and we requested a new one which never arrived. Housekeeping managed to avoid cleaning on either day of our stay and when we asked anything at reception, the staff were just rude - the place itself was okay overall but the reception staff, one lady in particular should never be let anywhere near a customer - really bad and unhelpfull attitude. Wouldn't recommend the place based on that alone - felt really unwelcome.
