Travelled up for the rugby last minute; on arrival an extra bed was fitted into our room - reception very helpful and friendly.

Had problem with hot warer been luke warm, but Martin hotel manager resolved the problem personally.

Rooms are basic but clean and tidy, great value for what you pay. 10 mins walk to Murrayfield and Princess St in other direction. Would come again

This hotel needs a major overhaul. We booked via a Group On deal (£60 for one night). The lift didnt work and when we finally reached our room the whole room including the bathroom smelled of urine. The stench was foul. To say that the place is basic is an under statement. I am happy to stay in basic but clean accommodation but this place was not sanitary. To be fair to the chap on reception he was very polite and offered us another room but we had seen enough. I had the feeling this wasnt the first time he had dealt with people checking straight back out. We lost our money but I would have prefered this to staying somewhere that is just not clean. The hotel is not central and also has running water outside which you could hear loudly in the room. All in the all a place that urgently needs some TLC.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere.

This hotel is enormous but there seemed to be about 10 rooms in use.
the staff are friendly
The restaurant is more of a cafe - I wouldn't use it
The Breakfast basic but ok for 6£
It was a good price but if it is to attract more guests needs a better bar and a much better restaurant.
I stayed in the Granary - a very old building that had been converted to rooms - Insane !!

Bordering the river this should have been the restaurant and convert the cafe thing to rooms.

At 10 mins walk from central edinburgh this should have been packed.

Needs a big rethink - but if you want a cheap good size room and are prepared to walk for meals and a drink go for it

As an ex travel agent I had previously stayed at this hotel about 7 years ago ... and it has gone downhill all the way. Clearly although not saying this and still selling itself as an hotel it is now aimed at the very bottom end of the market it is failing miserably, clean (ish) and adequate the beds fascinated us as I didn't have an measuring tape at a guess I'd say the beds are 2'6" adequate for a child under 12 but not for a (fattish) grown woman. Lots of extras charged from £5 for parking for 24 hours although if your quick there is some street parking spaces and £6 for breakfast which we didn't take and having read the reviews on here we're glad we didn't. on the plus point it was in a lovely location overlooking a small weir & within a 15 minute walk from the major attractions of castle and Princess St, however even though the staff were reasonably friendly I'd never stay here again and will stick to what I know, booking at this price Travelodge & Premier inns

Myself and my partner had booked this hotel for NYE through Travel Republic and thats where the problems started... Travel Republic had it advertised as a Travel Lodge which we are now aware it used to be but Britnnia bought it out late in 2013. When we went to check-in the hotel had no information regarding our booking the hotel looked after us well and sorted it all out for us luckily they had 2 rooms that hadnt been booked for that night so they got us a room. The hotel was clean and comfy just what you want from a hotel, about 15 minute walk in to Edinburgh City Centre, would stay again but book direct with the hotel and not Travel Republic

This is nothing like a hotel. Rooms are very basic. No wardrobe, no drawers and no where to hang coats or jackets. Window would not close properly and most light bulbs were out. Some mould in the bathroom.

The foid is quite simply awful. Breakfast was particularly bad. Bacon and sausages completely inedible. The boiling water for the tea was ok though I suspect the kitchen has a microwave and some heat lamps. The evening meal and service was almost laughable. With about 20 people in they closed the kitchen for over an hour as in refused to take orders even from people who had prepaid. They had 4 champagne flutes to go round and 3 ice buckets but luckily we got our own cutlery. The price was cheap but the whole establishment is run down and the staff spend most if their time apologising in the most insincere way. Makes fawlty Towers look like 5 star.
