I do have a chuckle when i read some of the reviews for this hotel. Lets face some facts. This is Edinburgh, one of the most expensive cities in the world to stay where the average hotel price for a 3* hotel is £150 per room per night. If you want a pool bunged in and a 2 minute walk from the centre, then you'll be paying £200. Travelodge is a budget hotel chain which allows most people like you and me, the chance to enjoy a bargain break away. I thought this hotel was superb value for money. A lovely location and a pleasant 15 minute walk to the centre. The room was very spacious and clean and had a bath and shower. The bar and restaurant area was great with plenty of choice. I'm rating this hotel purely on value. Yes there are far better places to stay in Edinburgh, but for £19-£29 per night, you can't beat it.

Room Tip: high floor with river view

That’s the wrong picture! An ibis not the Travelodge.
We used Travelodge a lot and this is one of the worst stays we have had. We have stayed here before and remember it to have been a good experience. This was probably down to the room we were given 232. It is situated in the old part of the building which looks like a restored mill. The location of this means you have to walk about 5 miles across different floors through 2 security doors to eventually find it. Room was clean enough apart from nasty smears on the mirror. The layout was a problem no plug near the mirror, could not hang any full length clothes. The bed was 2 singles put together creating a ridge. Also we thought we were not going to have any hot water, but ran the water for about 10mins and it did come warm, again probably due to the location of the room. The room is also opposite one of the security doors which did bang though the night. Would have complained at the time but no one on reception. Much of this disappointment could have been sorted if reception had given us more initial information, i.e., water, location, bed.
You now also pay for parking only a nominal fee of £3.00. Also you used to able to use a door at the front of the hotel to re-enter at the top of the hill this is now closed so you have to go all the way around to get back in via reception.
I would stay again depending on the price, but would ask for a different room, hotel in a good location and easy to walk from. We had a fantastic meal at Miro’s cantina which did help with our experience.

Room Tip: not in the old building

Pleasant enough, clean basic rooms and well priced and decent food and drink in bar and restaurant! Good enough location and friendly staff. Not five AT&T but what do you expect??? Highly reccomended for a budget stay!

We got a one night stay here for cheap and considering this, it wasn't too bad. Just don't expect to much. Normal hotel room, only 2 pillows, which were referred to as "pancakes" by my husband. We did have a few issues with our room, the floor got wet and damp after showering, so must of had a leak, and when we first arrived, the toilet hadn't been flushed after being used which wasn't nice! Good location however, we wanted a one night stay and had a 7am flight the next morning, so it did the job!

First stay at this budget hotel and was pleasantly surprised. Some other Travelodges I have stayed in have been very basic but this one was a good.

Room was tidy and clean albeit the bed was a bit lumpy for anything more than a couple of nights. Shower pressure could have been better too but not a disaster.

Breakfast was excellent value and good quality with a fair choice of hot and cold dishes,

Very disappointing this time around, (we visit & stay quite regularly), no hot water in the entire hotel on the first day... Bathroom grout in tiles, black (mould). Overall décor grubby, walls covered in tea/coffee. Standards very poor, even for Travelodge. Such a shame to see a large hotel in such a poor condition. Travelodge need to review their accommodation/standards, not good for their image.

Room Tip: choose an alternative hotel chain if you expect decent standards...

This travelodge is in a great location - just 15 minutes walk from the centre of Edinburgh and with plenty of parking spaces. It also has its own restaurant serving a buffet breakfast - good value for money if you book in advance when booking the room. The room was newly decorated and clean. The only down side was that the bed was far too soft - very unusual for any hotel these days.

Room Tip: We had a quiet room on the 5th floor overlooking the modern art gallery.
