“4.5 if I could”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

The hotel is in a nice cobbled road quite close to central Edinburgh about 15 minutes walk from the train station and centre, and abouit ten minutes from the Edinburgh Playhouse and a lot of restaurants, as well as the Omni Centre. The hotel appears to be quite old and is in a delightful row of old houses. It is reputedly haunted, but we saw no sign of that!

We had a couple of issues; on day one we returned to our room at 3.45 p,m. and were somewhat surprised that it had not been serviced. That was dealt with very speedily. Then on the second morning, no hot water! Eventually that resolved itself too. However, when checking out the member of staff could not have dealt with this better and waived some charges as an apology! The staff were very good throughout and very attentive. Very nice gardens too!

Breakfast was substantial, well cooked and well served, as well as a large buffet.

Great location, 10 mins walk from Princes street, near to Leith for Brittania and rooms have a sea view. Breakfast was plentiful with a good selection, even the bar prices are reasonable. I would stay here again.

Pleasantly surprised by lovely hotel and beautiful garden which we could see from the room. Get instructions on how to turn on and off shower....One problem, they took the facecloth that I brought and no one answered the inquiries about the loss....buffet breakfast very nice.

Room Tip: ask for a garden view

Dear Guest
Our gardens are indeed a lovely unexpected surprise when you are in a city centre hotel, so glad that you loved them too!
If you would like me to follow up on the facecloth please feel free to email me at lucja@royalterracehotel.co.uk so I can investigate further. My apologies for this.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

The location of this hotel is not too great - it is not within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile (about £10 in a taxi) but is relatively close to the train station & very close to theatre district. The rooms were very nice but the hotel is let down by its standard of food. The breakfast was very average indeed. The room service was slow & inadequate - toasted sandwiches are not hard guys.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your feedback. Whilst our location is not directly on the Royal Mile, as you said we are very close to the Theatre district and also a number of other great spots very close to us as well, it all depends on your requirements whilst in Edinburgh.
I am pleased that you liked our rooms, and we do pride ourselves on our food product as well, so disappointed to read your comments regarding the quality of the food. I have addressed this with our Head Chef and Food and Beverage Manager to ensure that this is addressed.
I hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels and look forward to welcoming you back the next time you are in Edinburgh.
Kind Regards

This is a potentially great hotel but there is a very noisy wedding going there right now, the furniture is vibrating in our room and it is expected to go on to 1am-management are indifferent to requests to have it turned down-dont risk losing sleep there!

Room Tip: away from reception rooms-poor sound proofing

Having experienced the Crowne Plaza Roxbutgh in transition I was a little apprehensive. Not helped by an offhand attitude from reservation lady when I asked about upgrade (platinum member 50 plus nights per year!)
No worries though on arrival. A very well appointed club lounge with tasty canapés and a dinky little terrace; friendly staff; a very well appointed room; tasty room service and a very good buffet breakfast . Job done! I will be back on buisiness and rate it above the other Crowne Plaza and the Indigo.

Dear Viewlander
Thank you so much for your very positive review. We are very fortunate with our Club Lounge, with its unique garden terrace, ideal in the warmer months, but also will be fantastic on those beautiful crisp winter days.
I look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future.
