We stayed in the Cruachan in February for a weekend break and it was exactly what we wanted and more than we expected. The room itself was very clean and homely with a great en-suite. The location was fantastic as was only a ten minute walk to the centre. Graham the owner was so accommodating and eager to help with any queries. He was so friendly and his breakfast was superb, great selection! We will definitely be visiting again!

we stayed in the cruachan guest house over new year's. the place itself is quite basic but charming. it's a great place for people needing a comfy bed to sleep in and don't require extra frills. the owner, graham, is as charming as can be. the scottish breakfast he serves is absolutely fantastic. the house was only a ten minute walk from the city centre, and if you don't want to walk, graham will be more than happy to help you figure out the buses. if you are looking for lovely and inexpensive place to stay, stay with graham at the cruachan house!

stayed here in june 2011 and have to say that it's the first time i have been disappointed in my choice of accomodation....despite ringing in advance to say what time i would be arriving there was no one to greet me upon arrival...it took a fellow guest to check me in!! the landlord graham eventually turned up after some 20-30 mins of me standing around in the hallway with barely an apology...surely if you know what time a guest is arriving you should make some kind of effort to be there upon they're arrival? room ok,although 1 hand towel and no bath towel in bathroom and no way of asking anyone for an extra towel as no one could be contacted...breakfast average and not a lot to choose from...despite very few others staying,he couldn't even remember my order and as for check out, could not even be bothered to wish me goodbye and a safe journey home....all in all, this place was a let down and will not stay here again....

stayed in cruachan guest house for the hogmanay festival (scottish new years celebration)
the guest house it self is average.
but the owner are very kind and accomodating.
all your queries are answerded.
breakfast is served untill 10 am only and we are looking forward to this, unfortunately as we are are out we did not manage to wake up on time for the breakfast.we still go down to check just in case.....the owner doesnt look very happy but we used our charm and he did served the breakfast for us even it is already past 11 in the morning.

Room Tip: there is no lift so if you have loads of luggage choose the ground floor.

Excellent situation in the animated Tollcross area, near the city centre. Graham cooks an amazing breakfast (ask for the salmon fishcakes!). He and his charming daughter Alyssa who helps him were wonderful hosts, friendly, forthcoming and with an incomparable sense of humour. The room was spacious and lovely decorated. I will definitely go back there when I come back in Edinburgh!

The male owner here is very rude. When I phoned to introduce myself as a local company that had just opened up in the area he told me he was on his lunch and hung up on me. It was a great shame as we would have used him for our staff to stay when on business trips.

Im sorry you were on lunch Mr. but you just lost yourself an aweful lot of business. Hope your lunch was worth the business you just lost.

I stayed here for two nights with my sister. We were given the twin en suite room on the ground floor which was really spacoius and the bathroom was modern and well done out. I was a little concerned about the noise if we were on the ground floor from the street outside but it was never a big issue. Breakfast was fantastic and you definately got plenty of great home cooked food - I was usally too full to finish all mine!
It was only a 15min walk into the city centre which we did instead of getting the bus but the guest house is also on the bus route if you wanted to spare your feet!
Graham was a perfect host very hospitable and helpful and always a phone call away if needed. The rooms were very clean and the dining area was also very spacious.
Great value for the quality we received - would definately come back again!
