Owner description: Captain's Bar has Scottish Folk music nightly in this historic and traditional bar in the old town. Close to the Royal Mile but a genuine Scottish bar where people appreciate talented musicians. Some nights are traditional singing - old folk songs and contemporary. Other nights are acoustic fiddle, guitar, flute and bagpipes. There are special folk sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The bar sells coffee and has wifi and a book exchange. Small seated area and the rest is standing area.

“barmaid needs a course in customer relations”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

Went their during the edinburgh festival and was delighted to find a quiet bar for a wee breather, i love my cider and asked if there was any decent cider and the reply was just bulmers cider, i replied jokingly to my wife and the barmaid that bulmers has never even seen an apple to which the barmaid replied curtly that is your opinion in a not too friendly manner, i finally went for an equally bad cider in a pint of strongbow where then i handed my money over and held my hand out for my change, the barmaid seen my hand out but just put my change on the bar AAARRRGGHH, how rude can you get, now i know why the place was quiet, probably due to the ignorant barmaid and the suicidal music she had playing.
we wont be back here anytime soon, if i was you , walk over to the brass monkey in drummond street where the staff were excellent

“Great time!!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

Visited The Captains Bar and was not disappointed. My bro and I were greeted by the owner of the pub. Her name is Pamela and she was a delight. She was very informative and gave us some history and told us the best sights to visit that were the best bang for our buck. Pamela is a friendly lady and her pub was fantastic. Thanks Pamela for the pub and grub advice!
