Lovely Hotel in an excellent location. Its just minutes walk from Georges Street and all the main places to visit. The Hotel decor is really Cool. Modern but in keeping with the Georgian buildings. We thought the reception staff in particular were welcoming and very helpful when we arrived and it was no problem storing our luggage until the room was available as we arrived very early in the morning.
The hotel is on a very busy road and after reading a previous review I booked a room at the back of the hotel which was really quiet.
The hotel is very new and it still has that new feel which of course is lovely. They seem to be trying to maintain this and keep it very clean which hopefully will continue.

Also the drinks in the bar were the cheapest we paid all weekend which is excellent.

All in all a really good hotel which I would recommend ..

STAY HERE!!!
You will not be disappointed. Great location, great staff. Cool hotel.
Rooms are wonderful.

Great little bar and the spicy bean vegetarian burger is fantastic.

Comments from others about the rooms in the front of the hotel are valid if you are a light sleeper - just request a room at the back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel and on one of the lower floors.

Gorgeous hotel in a great location. The staff are friendly, attentive and extremely helpful. Availability of parking was a godsend and it wasn't far from the hotel (make sure you ask about parking on booking!) Although the hotel doesn't have a lift and we were travelling with a baby and a buggy, the reception staff were fantastic, allowing us to leave the buggy in the office whilst in the hotel and helping us out on to the street with it when we were going out. Food was great and reasonably priced, room was spacious, with huge, very comfortable beds and a large flat-screen TV with a great range of channels. Large walk in shower was heaven! Would recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the capital whether on business or pleasure - good food, great service, close to shops, theatre and traffic links - what more could you ask for?

After many years of visiting Edinburgh on short breaks this is one of the best we have stayed at. Very central location, spotless accomodation, listening staff and great breakfast options. Just around the corner from John Lewis's and handy for bus station (about 100yards) and railway (10 minutes). Would not suit everyone as there are no lifts but very clever use of an old elegant building

Room Tip: quiet rooms at the back

The Hotel is finished to a high standard and I found the staff very friendly and welcoming.
I had a small single room, which was cosy and comfortable. Unfortunately it was at the front of the Hotel which is situated on a busy main road which generated traffic noise all night long.
After having very little sleep on my first nights stay I asked if I could be moved to a quieter room at the back of the Hotel. The Receptionist was very apologetic and allocated me a small double room at the back of the Hotel at no extra charge. This room too was cosy and comfortable and I was able to get a restful nights sleep in peace and quiet for the remaining two nights of my stay. I would definitely stay at this Hotel again and request a room at the rear.

Room Tip: Request a room at thew rear of the Hotel if you are a light sleeper

Thank you for your review and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay with us in Edinburgh.
It is only with your feedback and that or others that we are able to truly meet and exceed our customers expectations.
Being a light sleeper, you are right, the rooms at the rear are extremely quiet for a City centre and command views over the chimney pots to Fife.
We look forward to welcoming you back to The Place very soon.
Best regards

Welcome was as warm as the Hotel itself! Although room not available when we arrived our bags were held for us until we returned from shopping. This was true when we checked out also. It was freezing weather when we visited but hotel was a warm and welcoming place to come back to. Great location being only a three minute walk to St James centre or Harvey Nichols and six or seven to Princess Street (we were there for the shopping!). Lovely contemporary decor which looks great and works very well in the beautiful old building. Staff were exceptionaly welcoming, helpful and friendly (even those in the suits!) very refreshing! Booked standard rooms through the hotel at an amazing price and were upgraded to huge rooms with views across the Forth and the rooftops of Edinburgh. Room was well equipped, warm and very comfortable. Nice attention to detail like the huge full length mirror (often missing in hotel rooms). Had dinner in hotel in the evening and food was very good as was breakfast which was very reasonably priced. All areas of the hotel were very nicely decorated and finished. Already made another booking and looking forward to a return visit. Fabulous place for a long or short visit to Edinburgh. Great servie and quality at a surprising price!

Room Tip: The room we had at the back of the hotel had lovely views accross the Forth to Fife and was very lar...

Stayed here as a couple on a drinking / eating / shopping weekend at the end of November 2011. The location is perfect, 200m to the playhouse and various pubs / restaurants, 100m from bus station / car parks / shopping center and quarter mile to Princess street.

Very impressed with everything. The bar is striking with it's pink LEDs and mood lighting and prices are perfectly acceptable for such a place.. For example, bar food, around £10 for a fancy burger.. Cocktails around £6.50 a pop.. I think the house wine was about £17.

We had a room right on the top of 4 floors, there's no lift since it's an old listed building, this was fine for us but you might want to check first if you have any mobility issues!! (See my photo of the stairs!) .. Talking about the room, ours was 3610 and it was pretty huge, had room for an optional sofa bed! Nice big TV on the wall but the channels were very limited to BBC and a couple of junk channels - but you don't go to Edinburgh to watch TV do you? Fittings in the room were great, nice firm bed, mod lighting around the headboard, tea/coffee facility, perfectly adequate toilet / shower room.. Everything nice and clean and brand new.
My only criticism of the room would be that the sound proofing was poor, the hotel is right on a very busy road and we could hear everything through the window - it had a little vent thing plus didn't feel like it shut completely. We didn't care because the drink made sure we slept very well - it might have bothered me if i had work next day :)

We had breakfast included in our rate so we were allowed anything, cooked breakfast was great, grease free full Scottish.. Coffee, toast, jam etc etc. I think i heard the waitress say breakfast was £9.50 for those paying - which i would have been happy to pay!

Staff - All very helpful, welcomed us in, told us if we needed anything, just ask.. Places to eat / drink / party - whatever. .

Would certainly return and would recommend 'The Place'.

Room Tip: Book parking!! There's zero free or cheap parking nearby.. The NCP 100m away is available but qu...
