My wife and I have just enjoyed another exquisite lunch at The Mulroy where we experienced cooking of the highest quality and presentation. We started with Beef Tongue Ravioli and Cod Brandade and both were exemplary. This was followed by Inverary Shoulder of Venison and Hare a la Royale which were brilliant and showed the skills of the chef in his mastery of the flavours and textures. There is a certain je ne sais quoi that a French chef brings to cooking and Damien Rolain has this in abundance.
The Hare a la Royale, which is on the a la carte, is a classic French dish and this was brilliantly done and was perfection on a plate. With the 2 course a la carte coming in at £34.50 and the petit menu at £13.50 the Mulroy offers astonishing value for food of this quality, and ,as an example, Hare a la Royale on its own costs £35 at Kitchin restaurant.
Service throughout was informative and friendly and with a small but very interesting wine list this restaurant is a destination must.

Had a very good value lunch in this lovely restaurant. It had a real homely atmosphere with high quality decoration making it seem like a private dining room. Service was a little akward but they were so anxious to please. Will be back soon, all my friends have. Hope this is a success as there is such a large choice in Edinburgh. Please go you will love it.

Excellent pigs trotter terrine (slightly overwhelmed by the kumquat sauce), and an outstanding mini lamb shoulder and mint pie as starters were followed by perfectly roasted pheasant breast which was still moist, and flavour rich pork two ways mains. Desserts were disappointing but overall the cooking was innovative and professionally executed.
Regrettably the front of house did not match up with intermittent and somewhat off hand service even though only two tables were in use. Even congratulations were met with a stoic aloofness. A little more lightness and efficiency would turn this into a first class restaurant. We lunched. Perhaps dinner service would be more helpful.
The decor is pleasing and traditional although the lack of heating especially in the beautiful ladies toilet also must be rectified.

The attention to detail is impressive, the setting is fabulous. From the cutlery to the crockery to the impeccably ironed table cloth and napkins, everything has been selected with good taste and to the best interest for the client in mind.
We have a wonderful family lunch, the lunch menu was creative, seasonable, very good value for money and most importantly delicious. Portions were also perfect for us (not too large) to top it all the wine list is a treat. We felt welcomed and could have stayed very comfortably for hours more.

The setting is fine the food was acceptable but the service could be more friendly and attentive. Wine should be on the table if staff are not around to top you up!

The person in charge was a bit stand offish and a little dismissive, when you ask for the bill to be answered 'when i am ready' makes you think well fair enough I will walk out and then see what happens!!

Could be a really great restaurant but please remember locals can and want to support you all year round not just in the busy times! January/February/march can be very quiet! .
