“Fabulous place to stay”
Reviewed March 24, 2014 via mobile

Found a lovely jem in the most beautiful City, bright, very clean and comfortable, especially the bed! Most of all the reception of the welcoming staff, they could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable, with great tips on special places in Edinburgh and a lovely breakfast -all done with care and thought.

It is not the first time I say it: Best place for quality-price in Edinburgh.

I came back again after last year as my experience was great and could not believe my surprise when I found out that the hotel was even better in terms of everything.

First, the hotel has been refurbished and redecorated and it looks so smart with a nice bar area with many drink on offer.

Second, the rooms look so much nicer and they are always so clean and I never thought that would be possible and the best part of this is THE BED. It is so nice to be somewhere else and have the best night sleep.

The hotel is a family business and this can be seen by its atmosphere. The staff is so friendly and helped me so much again.

Finally, breakfast is still really good and this time I was offer a much wider variety of food than last time so even better :)

To sum up, never stay somewhere different from No. 32 Hotel!

Room Tip: Stayed in two separate rooms and both perfect!

No 32 Hotel is in a quiet residential area, close to Haymarket, yet an easy walk to the bustle of the city centre ( or Murrayfield rugby ground). This large Victorian house has been recently refurbished and converted to a small hotel. The bedrooms were very clean, with pleasant modern decor and the public rooms are attractive and contemporary. (The bathrooms are tiny but functional and spotlessly clean) The owners gave helpful personal service, ordering taxis, providing maps, allowing us to leave our bags after we had checked out etc. There is free wifi. If you are looking for a small well run establishment to use as a base when exploring the sights and restaurants of Edinburgh - then this could be it. No 32 is not large or grand but then neither are its prices, in a city where accommodation is scarce and relatively high in cost. We were a party of 6 people staying in the city during a busy six nations rugby weekend and felt we were well looked after. Thanks.

The hotel had smart, modern and clean rooms. The staff polite and helpful making sure we knew where we were going. There was a decent breakfast. The hotel was quiet and peaceful. An ideal base for seeing Edinburgh. I would happily stay there again.

We booked as it was our first wedding anniversary and I now wished I had stayed at home. After driving over six hours we arrived at around 17.30pm to find the front door locked. After knocking at least three times and waiting nearly five minutes a lady came to the door and said "sorry we were just having a drink". She then introduced a man holding a glass of wine in his hand and was obvious this was not his first and said that he was the manager. He then spent ages trying to find the reservation that we had booked in his diary. We then asked where we can park the car and Ash (the manager and owner) said it was around a ten minute walk away or we could park outside the hotel but had to return every four hours to put money in the meter as they did not have a permit. We said that the website when we booked the hotel stated that parking was nearby. There was no mention of a ten minute walk ( which when checking on the map we were given turned out to be a twenty minute walk) or mention of the meter. We were then shown our room which was ok but poor view and unclean window frames. When we queried the parking
Ash said "if we don't want to stay then we could leave and we wouldn't get charged. We queried why he would say such a comment to which he relied "some people turn up and don't like it". We then decided to use the wifi and look for somewhere else to go but the wifi could not connect and when we queried that in the public areas Ash could also not get connected or offer a reason why. We managed to find another hotel and told them we were leaving and they said that this was ok and again that they wouldn't charge us.
The following day we had an email from booking.com to say the hotel had been in touch with them and they had taken the funds for three nights which was the original booking out of our account. I then spent the next three days trying to contact Ash of which he was putting the phone down on me, being very rude and not even answering the phone to me when knowing it was me ringing back. Whenever I spoke to him he denied saying that he said he wouldn't charge us! After three days and one very long conversation with him he then agreed to put two nights fees back into our account but not the night we arrived. He also said that if he was to do this I had to email him first saying that we were sorry and that we were not going to put any bad reviews on any websites. He said he would put the money in the same day and it was at least another three days of ringing and pestering before it went into our account.
It ruined the whole break and my advice is do not under any circumstances get involved with this hotel or manager.

Dear Sir,

First of all I profusely apologize for your dissatisfaction with No.32.

Something that No.32 prides itself over is customer satisfaction both with the service provided by the staff and also the quality of the hotel. We are a 3 star rated hotel but we try to provide a service and standard that is above our rating, something that is welcomed by our guests.

As stated on our website we do provide parking but only at a location nearby that of the hotel, we cannot take responsibility for the guest not having read the policy of the hotel properly.

Wi-Fi is available in all public areas and this has recently been upgraded to allow Wi-Fi access in all rooms free of charge. I was using the Wi-Fi at the time you were trying to connect to the Wi-Fi and again we cannot take responsibility for the lack of knowledge in a guest trying to connect to the internet from his/her personal laptop.

It does not seem logical that as soon as a guest arrives that we would tell them that they can leave if they do not like the room provided. What was said was that if you are unhappy with any part of your stay that we will try our best to sort out the problem in question to make your stay more comfortable.

It is extremely upsetting from the hotels point of view that everything was done to make your stay as comfortable as possible but you had chosen to pack your bags and leave. We have every right to charge the guest as you had arrived and checked in at No.32.

Under the circumstances we were completely understanding about your stay and we had offered to refund you a two nights stay which is well within our right not to give. This was given after the manager returned from a business trip and this was stated to yourself.

However, I do apologize for your booking experience with us and I hope we can welcome you again in our hotel.

We wish you the best in your personal and business endeavors.

Kind Regards,

Hotel Management

We stayed at No 32 for our annual Christmas get together and it was a gem of a find. Munish and staff were so helpful and accommodating and full of local knowledge. We loved the style of the hotel and it's location is ideal for walking into bustling Princes Street with it's many bars and restaurants and just far enough away for peace and quiet at the end of a busy day. However, if visiting the Old Town, a cab would probably be recommended as it is a bit further away. The cooked breakfast was superb and the staff were very attentive and helpful. We had a trip booked for early on a Sunday morning and were able to pre-book our breakfast the night before to save time. The bedrooms are spacious and No. 2 is superb. Would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to visit Edinburgh as great value for money and very friendly hosts. Thank you No 32 for a truly memorable stay.

Located about a 10 minute walk from the castle end of Princes St, this guest house is set in a quite street. Small, quirky and comfortable, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We arrived early and were able to leave our luggage which was then put in our rooms ready for when we came back later. The staff were friendly and full of local knowledge incl good bars, restaurants, trains, buses etc.
Our room was a deluxe double, with a very comfortable kingsize bed, flat screen tv, basic tea/coffee facilities and a huge shower! It was quiet at night even with the window open, the room temperature was pleasant too. Breakfast was cereals, fruit or a cooked breakfast with a vegetarian option - tasty and well presented.
We stayed here one night and only complaint is we wish we could have stayed longer!
A bargain for a Saturday night Christmas shopping break for £70, we will be returning!

Dear Madam,

Thank you for choosing No.32 Hotel for your Christmas shopping break away in Edinburgh.

We are extremely happy that you were pleased with your stay here at No.32. We are always striving to make guests stay here at No.32 comfortable and pleasant.

We want to make No.32 a home away from home, something we feel lots of hotels lack these days.

We have recently upgraded the hotel again to make the hotel even nicer for future guests who come to Edinburgh. We hope that you will be one of them in the near future.

Kind regards,

Hotel Management
