“Average food. Average service. Over priced.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

Average average average.

Do not get anything vegetarian because you'll feel like you could have just made the food yourself by popping down to Sainbury's, hitting the frozen food section, buying some vegetarian sausages and burgers, going home and cooking them in loads of oil... The result would be the same.

The Vegetarian burger is horrendous. Unimaginative, pre made and awful and oily. The vegetarian breakfast - again, unhealthy and not what health-conscious vegetarians want. I feel like the food is lacking care and imagination and the service is pretty bad.

It's not overly expensive, but for what you get it, it's bad value.

“Awful Moussaka -avoid!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Usually we check on Trip Advisor before eating out but this time we were on holiday and stuck in the rain so dived into what seemed to be a nice bistro. Ambiance was ok and they have a nice patio area outside. But sadly the moussaka is truly awful! And I'm not the only one complaining about it if you look at the reviews. I'm not a whinger but had to tell the staff about this as most of it remained on my plate. A microwaved lump of tasteless cheese, grey soggy aubergine and no relish or flavour or sauce!

A limp sad salad that resembled veg peelings for the compost bin was the accompaniment. My husband enjoyed the lamb kebab and halloumi which were decent but his chips were frozen ones and again the salad was limp and tasteless. After complaining the blase manager gave me a massive £3 off! If I'd read the reviews here, I would have asked for the total £13 to be taken off for the evil moussaka but thought it could be a one off. Please go to Howies restaurant in Grassmarket instead-which we thankfully discovered on our second night in Eburgh -fab food there and ignore this monstrosity!

“Good enough food - not good enough service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

We arrived just before noon on a Sunday. First impressions on atmosphere was good, cheerily greeted by one waitress as we entered but the one who served us needs a bit more customer service training; asked us, rather brusquely, 3 times within the first 5 minutes if we were ready to order (it was quite clear we were not).

Pros:
Tasty food when it arrived (we waited approx 40 mins for food to arrive even although the restaurant wasn't full). The lamb kebab and the kofte beef meatballs were both tasty. Lamb was moist and the meatballs were juicy with a fresh tasting tomato sauce and well cooked rice.
Nice venue.
Pleasant greeting on arrival.

Cons:
Felt rushed into ordering quickly.
Waited a long time for food to arrive.
Server was a bit dour/unattentive and didn't say please or thanks when I paid the bill.
Plates were cold (and could have been cleaner - bit smudged-looking around the edges)
The the shredded salad that came with the meals was a bit past it's best, no pitta or mediterranean-type bread with the kebab (3 generous slices of brown bread instead) and the halloumi that is meant to come as part of the kebab dish arrived 5 minutes later.
£25.00 for 2 average sized portions and 2 soft drinks isn't the best value.

Wasn't awful by any means but doubt I'll rush back or recommend.

“Tasteless Beefburger”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

Situated just off the Royal mile, we nipped in for late lunch.
Warm , friendly greeting by staff. Great big teapot with great big coffee cups, made sure you better be thirsty!, and a quick drinker!.
Both ordered Circus beef burger & fries, as we were hungry after long trip around the castle.
Burger was dry & tasteless, nothing on it in a dry, not toasted bun.
small portion of something tomato on the side and small amount of shredded lettuce, maybe this is why we needed so much tea!

“Spot on little cafe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

Just had some lunch in here - prices were very reasonable (cheap for a touristy part of the city) and the food was excellent. Great quality coffee and nice staff.
There's a lovely little outside area to the back - I'll return there in the spring.

Recommended.
