We stayed the night before visiting the zoo, which meant we were already parked and ready to go the day of the zoo visit.
The pool are was clean and kept the kids entertained in the evening.
We dined in the restaurant and the food was adequate.
Breakfast was filing and set us up well for Zoo Day!
We had a triple room which was perfect and the beds were really comfy which meant a good nights sleep all round!
We found all the staff we encountered to be very helpful and polite.

Room Tip: Perfect for a zoo visit. Very child friendly.

Thanks for taking the time to write. Great to hear that the team were so helpful and polite during your stay and that the breakfast set you up for the long day at the Zoo.

My partner and i recently had an overnight stay here. There was ample parking and it was right next to the zoo. The hotel seemed clean enough and check in was quick and easy. We went up to our room which was on the first floor. It had all the basics which you would expect. However it was all the additional add ons which i found to be really expensive. I thought as a large hotel chain you would have got free wifi but you had to pay for it. to watch a movie which were older was up to £10, it was cheeper for us to go to the cinema. The room did smell like stale cigaretts but we later found that our room looked onto te car park where staff and guest would go for cigaretts. As it was a really warm night we did have to have the windows open. It was very noisey and we were woken several times during the nigh with other guest, or staff talking while smoking. The shower was old and had lime scale, the bathroom was not ventalated either. Overall it was an ok experience, and if you are looking for somewhere just to sleep for the night and are not botherd about having to much comfort then this would be ideal.

A very generous three star review for what seemed to be a less than satisfactory experience. I can assure you that no staff would ever smoke outside the entrance to the hotel, below the guest rooms. We have a dedicated area for smokers below the hotel where our service elevators are.

Unfortunately WiFi is a charged amenity within our hotels, and our Gold and Platinum members receive this aminity complimentary. This will extend to our club members in 2014.

I'm glad to hear you had a comfortable stay, and hope you visit again.

It is so disappointing to hear that you found the reception staff to be unhelpful. This is where we put a huge focus on the welcome for our guests, as we understand that first impressions really count and this is where we can make the difference.

I promise, this is not the norm for us and I will certainly be looking further into this. Our in house Sampans Oriental Restaurant has over 45 main meals to choose from, and isn't any more expensive than the local Chinese restaurants close by. You may be suprised to find just how good value this is, especially with our dedicated Sampans chefs and the excellent quality of authentic food they produce.

We hope you visit again and find the service to exceed your expectations.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. We chose this hotel only because the coach collecting guests for my sisters wedding was departing from the car park. Location is excellent on Corstorphine Road so only a few kms into the city, an easy drive or you can catch the bus from the main road. car parking in the hotel is free. The hotel is located next to the Edinburgh Zoo which makes it ideal for visiting the pandas - which would have been perfect if we'd actual made a visit but we just ran out of time. Our room was reasonably sized as was the bathroom. BUT....the room was so hot due to no air conditioning which meant during the night I would wake up coughing so a full nights sleep wasn't possible. The shower was over the bath and regardless of how well you positioned the shower curtain the floor ended up flooded. There's a sign on the wall that lets you know that you will be held financially responsible for any bathroom flooding - it may be better for them to fix the existing problem rather than guests incurring penalties for inadequate facilities. The toilet also had some flushing challenges. Our room overlooked the Zoo car park so no real view but we did have the morning sounds of the zoo waking up - it's up to you whether this is negative or not, I found it a positive as it was a bit like I imagine being on a safari would be :) We didn't have breakfast but did request room service a couple of times. The staff were unhelpful and I honestly felt i was putting them out asking for something to eat. Room service finishes at 11pm and there is very limited offerings after this time. Our first time we asked for a cheese plate consisting of a very difficult placement of cheese and biscuits on a plate and appeared to be a massive inconvenience for the staff member we spoke to. It did arrive though and was good. Our second request a few nights later was well after 11pm so we chose the Chile Con Carne from the limited options available and it was actually very enjoyable. Although we missed out on breakfast times, we did have coffee downstairs in the lounge area and one morning I ordered what has to be the best scrambled eggs I have ever had anywhere ever. they were so soft and creamy and just plain YUM! If it wasn't for the flooded bathroom floor and the hot hot hot room I'd stay again.

Room Tip: If you enjoy Zoo noise in the morning ask for a room facing the Zoo car park.

Thanks for writing such a generally positive review, and for your very honest feedback. All of our rooms have airconditioning and it really disappoints me to hear that there may have been an issue for this not functioning in your room properly. I would like to think if this was mentioned at the time of your stay we would certainly have done everything possible, including a move to another room, to ensure you had the best possible sleep.

I will make some inquiries into why the team didn't sound as positive and helpful as we usually do when you made your requests. Our room service is 24 hours and the guest is at the heart of everything we do, if this wasn't evident during your stay then we have failed to make you feel as valued as you truly are, for this I apologise sincerely.

Thank you again for taking the time to write some very useful and vaulable feedback.

I stayed the night here to attend a friend's wedding in May 2013. I booked directly with the hotel and got a good rate, and was delighted to get an upgrade to an Executive room when I checked in. I parked almost literally outside the front door of the hotel, and car parking was free. Check-in was quick and efficient. My room was large with a King bed, sofa, coffee table, and the usual work desk / flatscreen TV etc. Bathroom was a standard Holiday Inn bathroom, ie perfectly adequate. See photos for a better idea. The fierce aircon quickly cooled the room down - it was a very hot day outside! I was out most of the day / evening, but enjoyed a great sleep in a cool, quiet room when I returned. The trip to Arthur's Seat area cost about £15 in a taxi, and returning from city centre was about £10. This is a good choice in Edinburgh, with decent rooms, good location and free car parking. All the staff I interacted with were friendly, helpful, and got the job done with minimum fuss. That's exactly what I look for in a short stay hotel! I'd stay here again.

I think for anyone visiting Edinburgh the location of the Holiday Inn provides you with two excellent options . You are 10 minutes by bus from the city centre and the same time heading back to the airport or the motorway heading out of town. The Hotel itself provides you with an excellent breakfast and Sampans is a first class restaurant. on both occasions the staff were very friendly and helpful in advising me of what choices I could have as i suffer from Celiac Disease and require a strict gluten free diet. The room we had provided us with a stunning view over the southwest of Edinburgh and as the sun rose in the morning the views were spectacular. We will certainly return to the hotel again.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. We arrived at the hotel before check in time but our room was ready and we were able to put our cases in before going straight next door to the zoo!

We stayed on a room only basis and never ate at the hotel so cannot comment on the quality of the food. Breakfast was £13.95 so we decided against breakfast in the hotel and went to Wetherspoons instead which was less than half that for both of us, even if you chose the 'large breakfast'. A few reviews have mentioned Wetherspoons for breakfast but give no directions - so if you turn right at the front of the hotel (away from the city) and walk for about half a mile it is on the right hand side of the road and is called the White Lady.

Our room at the hotel was on the fourth floor. It was a large room and overlooked the zoo. It was lovely and quiet and we only heard some exotic bird noises coming from the zoo in the morning. We could also see the gorilla enclosure! The beds were comfortable and there was everything you could need, except wi-fi, which there was a charge for both in the room and in public areas!

We had all intentions of going in the pool but spent so long in Edinburgh that we never ended up using it, although we did go and have a look at it - it was small and there was a jacuzzi, and it did look very inviting.

The hotel is just a bus journey into Edinburgh. If you use the 'Zoo' bus stop next to the hotel more buses stop here. The cost is £1.50 for a single ticket. A taxi costs £10.

A very enjoyable stay away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, but near enough to get there and back easily.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor at the back overlook the zoo which may be a bit more interesting than overloo...

Thanks very much for sharing your experience. It is quite unique to hear the exotic birds and apes from the Zoo in the mornings.

Hopefully you'll have time to experience the swimming pool and our food on your next visit.
