“Yet another 5 star”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

Popped into Papii with a few friends on a quiet midweek afternoon and was massively impressed. Coffee wasn't only fantastic but made fantastically by the staff, soup of the day was amazing and even the simple baguettes were fresh and spot on! Looking forward to visiting Papii again in the near future,

“Okay rather than amazing!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013 via mobile

This is a pleasant cafe - but it isn't really special as its Tripadvisor ranking suggests.
It is small with a limited breakfast/brunch/lunch menu. When we visted it was rather cold inside and service was very slow as there were only two members of staff.
Coffees were very tasty but only lukewarm. Waffles were okay.
We had a fairly enjoyable visit but there was nothing about the establishment, in our opinion, to mark it out as exceptional.

“I won't be rushing back”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

I went to Papii based on fantastic Trip Adviser reviews to try the waffles. When we arrived (Saturday midday) there was no batter left so I was unable to order what I was looking forward to having. Place is scruffy and needs to be refreshed big time. I had a coffee which was nice but didn't fancy anything to eat as the food was placed in bowls covered with cling film and looked dry. Prices are fairly high and with plenty of places to go to nearby, I won't be rushing back.

“Best coffee in Edinburgh”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

It's not a grand cafe like Demel in Vienna, Cron & Lanz in Goettingen or A Brasileira in Lisbon, but this tiny, modest and rather inconspicuous cafe in Edinburgh's city centre is excellent. The coffee is, I think, the best in the city and the food is good too. Make a note of the address as it is easy to miss.
