We walked from our hotel to the Gallery. What a wonderful location overlooking Princes Gardens and the Scott Monument. Free entry and once inside very airy and not too many people, so walking round is a pleasure. We particularly wanted to see certain paintings and staff were very helpful in locating these.
We started off by viewing the Scottish Exhibition which introduced us to many artists we were unfamiliar with. This was very good. We then continued with the rest. We saw some wonderful paintings by Rembrandt, Monet, Degas and some sculptures including one version of Rodin's Kiss. We also particularly wanted to see Botticelli's Virgin Adoring the Sleeping Christ Child, Picasso's Mother and Child, Van Gogh's Head of a Peasant Woman and Vermeer's Christ the House of Martha and Mary . We saw everything we came for and a lot more. A very interesting and successful visit on our part.
Lifts are available to get to upper floors.
Having bought some postcards in the shop we then went to the cafe for coffee and cake and then made our way to the Old Town and the Royal Mile.
Definitely recommend if interested in art.
