We were a party of 7 last Sunday. We stopped at Shakespear on Lothian Road. Big Mistake. We managed to find a table and off we went to the bar to order a bottle of wine. We asked for a bottle of Chardonnay. The bottle was placed in the wine cooler, I asked if they had any other, bar tender sighs Eh might have. He looks in fridge 'No that's it' ok we take it, he then asks do you need glasses ? We reply please 4. Off we go to the table. One of our group did not like the wine and decided to get something else. Back to bar. Can I have a bottle of Prosecco. 'Sorry don't have any' We then ask for Pinot Griggo. ' Don't have any' We then ask what they had. 'House wine' All the time the bar tender is sighing. We settle on house wine. We then ask for extra cutlery as table is short. 'Ask server' was reply. The one server is attending tables. This was pointed out to the 'Happy Bar Man' Sighs again. We reply he looks busy can you help. Sighs again. We tell him that his attitude is pretty rubbish and ask for manager. Attitude changes very quickly. 'Manager (if that who he was appears) hears our tale. No wine we have been busy. No apology nothing. Given our cutlery by the 'happy bar man' Food was not great either but service was shocking, we will not be returning again and will not recommend this place to anyone. DONT GO.

If you are looking for a small pub dish near usher Hall I would recommend this venue. Standard pub, good food quality and nice atmosphere. Can be a bit noisy when sports TV is running.

It isn't exactly what I would call a "local" experience -- but the fish & chips are good and it is a great value. The bartender was very friendly. It was clean and the atmosphere was nice. Large screen TV showing sports matches were placed throughout.

Spent one night in Edinburgh in a company of three. Wanted to eat somewhere not too far from our apartment. Couldn't have made a better choice. What an excellent pub. We were there on Monday so we could upgrade to larger meals for free. Three large meals plus drinks for about £25. If we had stayed in Edinburgh longer, we would have eaten here every night.

Only minor point is that the girl serving us didn't really seem to enjoy her job. No biggie, but not wise in a bar.

We spent four days in Edinburgh and our first dining experience of the city was here. Though we looked at other restaurants, we always returned to this one. The food was good, wholesome pub tucker, with excellent service from the staff. Never had one meal that we were disappointed with. Would happily recomend to others. We were impressed with the prices too.
