We stayed in The Balmoral over Valentines Weekend to attend a friends wedding and it couldn't have been any nicer. The hotel itself is beautiful and the views from our room were amazing- rm 526- ( I'm actually from Edinburgh originally but it still took my breath away). We upgraded to an Executive Room for an extra £20 per night and it was worth it. The room was a decent size and nicely decorated. The bathroom is gorgeous and the bath is so deep I almost didn't want to get out!! As we were attending a wedding in the hotel we spent pretty much all of our stay on various floors and rooms - all of which were stunning. The wedding itself went beautifully and the food was amazing! The staff couldn't have been anymore helpful. I've always wanted to stay in the Balmoral and it didn't disappoint.

Just returned home from a 2 night stay at The Balmoral and can honestly say it was the most amazing experience! I am gutted to be back home in aberdeen and will be booking a return trip soon. We stayed in the royal suite, room 230 which was breathtaking. Enormous in size with lounge, bedroom, spacious bathroom with roll top bath and seperate closet and dressing area. I loved the period decor and 2 fireplaces. We dined at number one and opted for the tasting menu which was to die for. The shaw and smith sauvignon blanc was the nicest wine we found this weekend. The staff were all so polite and happy, nothing was a problem for them. We were made to feel so welcome. Afternoon tea was scrumptious and much more filling than it looked! We also enjoyed passionfruit cocktails in the balmoral bar and would highly recommend the fillet steak in hadrians for an evening meal. The location is ideal for sightseeing and shopping with harvey nichols and jenners just a few mintues walk. This trip was perfect and it really is difficult to find anything negative to say at all. In the interest of balance i will say that the mini bar was not switched on or not working so the milk inside for tea and coffee was sour and the breakfast that we ordered to our room was quite cold. No big deal and didnt spoil our experience in any way. The staff at this hotel do a wonderful job and we cannot wait to return! The mcgowans x

Room Tip: Room 203 is the best suite in the hotel, worth saving up for, you will be treated like royalty.

Dear Guest

I am thrilled to read your outstanding review of The Balmoral and to learn that you had the opportunity to enjoy so many aspects of our service, from afternoon tea to our Michelin-star restaurant, Number One, and dinner in the brasserie rounded off with cocktails in the bar.
I am sorry to learn that the mini bar was not functioning during your stay and that you found the breakfast a little cold. Whilst I am pleased that these inconsistencies did not impact on your overall enjoyment, I have shared your comments with the relevant team members to ensure this does not impact on our future guests.
Our Royal Suite is quite spectacular and I am glad that you found it provided a suitably luxurious base from which to enjoy your celebratory visit and we very much hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon.

Yours sincerely

Big, beautiful hotel. From the moment you arrive, and the doorman takes your luggage to reception, you know you're someplace special. The service here is absolutely superb, and always with a smile! Rooms are spacious, well appointed, and spotlessly clean. Room service for breakfast.....what a treat! It's so relaxing at The Balmoral. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Edinburgh.

Afternoon tea is an enjoyable experience. Relax and enjoy it. Best enjoyed with friends and plenty of good chat. Sandwiches actually looked quite small. However I think the cake and scones were the best part. Tasty and plentiful. It is pricey so make an afternoon of it. The staff are very polite and service is good. Obviously there are cheaper afternoon teas out there but I think at the Balmoral it is more about the experience. I had a nice time.

I stayed three nights at the balmoral, and it was just okay. There were a few odd things i didn't like, such as the pre-authorisation of much of the bill prior to seeing the room, and the fact that breakfast didn't start until 7am. Then there is the noise from the street - a 4 nations Rugby game was played on the saturday night, and even from the 6th floor i was woken regularly during the night.

Dear Guest

Thank you for sharing your impressions following your recent stay at The Balmoral. I am sorry to learn hat not all aspects of your experience met with your expectations. Whilst we do always require a pre-authorisation upon checking in to the hotel, we would be happy to show you your assigned accommodation before taking the authorisation and would ask that you request this on any future stays if it would make you feel more comfortable. Our breakfast service in the brasserie is from 7 am, however, we do offer 24 hour room service and would be happy to accommodate an earlier breakfast service upon request.
Given our central location, the hotel does occasionally experience some external noise disruption on particularly busy weekends, such as the International Rugby fixtures. We do have several internal rooms or rooms facing the rear of the hotel which tend to be quieter and I have updated our records to ensure this is allocated for any future stays you may have with us.
I do hope that with my explanations above, you will choose to stay with us in the future. Please feel free to contact me personally if I can be of any assistance with your future reservations.

Yours sincerely

For a short break in Edinburgh, this is an excellent hotel choice.
The staff are courteous, and efficient, and the central location is a real bonus. Rooms are well thought out, and a relaxing, luxurious sleep is guaranteed.
