This is my second time here and I am really just stuck for words because this place takes the words out of my mouth.
It's amazingly clean, the staff are absolutely amazing
and very professional, the breakfast is the best and the concierge don't try to just send you anywhere because they are getting a back hander from that place.
It's right in the middle of everything with great views of the castle(depending on what room you are in).
This place is a home away from home don't go anywhere else but here.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in December. It was out first visit to Edinburgh and the hotel and staff made it a very friendly and comfortable experience. We just had the standard double room, but it was extremely comfortable, lovely bathroom, gorgeous large fluffy towels and large bath room in general. I really don't like hotels which don't offer tea/ coffe in room but the Balmoral was in a class of its own here. We rang to reception and were delivered a tray with a kettle, and all the requirements including a bottle of FRESH milk...such a contrast to other hotels who give you that awful UHT milk in cartons which always smell sour. It's the small things which make the difference.
The breakfast was superb, absolutely everything you could wish for and more and superb quality. I never eat a cooked breakfast in hotels but this was too good not to indulge.
The hotels was decorate for Christmas and it was beautiful. The concierge very helpful and even printed off or boarding passes for our flight home and brought them to us at our breakfast table.
I would love to come back to Edinburgh as there is so much to explore and we would definitely book into the Balmoral. Definitely a five star experience.

Room Tip: The standard room was perfectly good, the bathroom well equipped, you really don't need anything...

We went into the Number One Bar for a cocktail on my husbands 60th birthday. The service we received from the second we entered was absolutely fantastic. They took a reserved sign off a table for us because there wasn't any other seats available unless it was near the door, which may have been draughty.
We were given the menu, I had a champagne cocktail, my husband had a pint of bitter and twisted and our son had a belvedere vodka with cola. We were also given delightful cones in small glass holders. With popcorn and nuts in them. The waiter asked if we had enjoyed our day and made polite conversation with is. We were then left to enjoy our drinks. He did come back to ask if there was anything else he could get us and if everything was ok.
It was time for us to leave and we were given a friendly goodbye.
Excellent service and would recommend to everyone, whether a special occasion or not.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel in January this year. Tea/Coffee facilities were available in the room plus a complimentary biscuits and chocolate which we thought was a welcome personal touch. The breakfast was a wonderful experience, very relaxing. However, last months visit, with our son and his wife, was a huge disappointment. We had been driving for a long time, stuck in huge traffic jams in the city and arrived at the hotel looking forward to a much welcome cup of coffee and biscuits. No such luck - a notice in our room informed us if we wanted these facilities we needed to contact housekeeping! We decided to head straight to the bar where the service was appalling, we waited for 30 minutes before our order arrived. The following morning we STOOD IN A QUE FOR 25 MINUTES waiting to be taken to our table. All the guests were complaining - it was chaotic! However, even though all the staff were 'rushed off their feet', they were extremely helpful and courteous. We complained at main reception but our complaint was dismissed rather abruptly, siting a 'full' hotel as the cause!! I appreciate it is busy everwhere at Christmas time but for the price we were paying we thought this was most unacceptable and will NEVER stay there again.

Went for evening Christmas dinner with Eden Scott. The Hotel really looked after us well with spacious seating, well laid out tables, entertainment, dance floor etc. the food was really very good and not at all like usual mass produced festive fare. I would definitely consider eating there again.

Without going into personal detail I can not thank the manager and staff enough for their support and help during my recent stay with my husband. The hotel was beautiful...the Scotch bar a total pleasure. I will be back some time in the future and I will never forget your kindness.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better the view and the quieter the room.

A Christmas shopping and theatre weekend in Edinburgh was absolutely crowned by our stay at the Balmoral! Faultless experience of hotel hospitality and staff excellence, can't recommend it highly enough and we booked our next stay before we even got home!
