Certificate of Excellence

This is an excellent true 5 star hotel . The Balmoral has all one expects of a good hotel but adds a homliness and friendlinees that you often do not find with top hotels. The level of service is professional and unobtrusive. My wife and I stayed recently for two nights to attend our sons wedding. On the first evening we entertained some guests in Hadrians restraunt - high standards of food and service with both food and wine reasonably priced
We personally did not use the spay but family assured us that it well worth the visit
The wedding reception was exemplary enhanced by the best views in Edinburgh
Probably the only hotel we have stayed at where we could find no faults

Tastefully updated/renewed with very friendly staff. Excellent leisure facilities and very comfortable bed!

Some of the carpets on the stairs looked threadbare, I just felt there was a lot of grey throughout the hotel, in particular the hall walls etc which struck me as rather unexciting for a luxury venue. Breakfast was a bit chaotic but the coffee was very good.

Spent two nights here in Feb, wow what a lovely Hotel. The staff are what make this place so special. The concierge go out of their way to help you in particular Andy and Frank. The room was lovely - overlooking the Castle. The Spa is fantastic and the therapists are brilliant. Having room service breakfast was a real treat and we preferred this to coming down to the restaurant. The bar is superb and the barman made us a cocktail that was not on their menu. The Balmoral Hotel is the only place to stay if your visiting Edinburgh.

Fabulous experience, a lovely champagne/sarnie and cake day. Had lots to eat, served by excellent, highly trained staff. Place was surprisingly busy for a Thursday afternoon, so ambience and atmosphere were a given, all helped by the harp player. Lovely! Very keen to pay a return visit.

As a birthday treat my partner was treated to a fine Afternoon Tea at the Balmoral. From being greeted at the revolving front door on a cold & wet Saturday in February to a long chat with a member of staff about the hotel's future plans on leaving, the whole experience was better than 1st class. Obviously the food and drinks from an extensive tea menu was superb, but what made the day so memorable was the professionalism of all staff involved - even down to boxing up what couldnt be finished to be taken away and eaten later at home.

With this attention to detail from the Balmoral we will surely return

This is my second visit to this hotel and frankly while it looks great on the outside and inside its just not a good hotel to stay at for sleep.
On checking on I requested a room on the quiet side with a king sized bed....dumped the bags and rushed off to a meeting. Later when I got back realised they had given me a room inward facing which is fine but next to an air conditioning unit which sounded like a train! So much for a quiet room....then at 11pm they moved me to a front facing room where I could hear every lorry car that went past. Had 3 hours broken sleep when it could have been 8 hours. Have stayed in Edinburgh many times and will never return here as all I really want from a hotel is a comfortable bed where I can sleep. The King Sized bed is also a joke as its 2 singles zipped together so it's like sleeping in a single bed and yes there is no top mattress so you can feel the zip when you lie in bed. Please remember this was may second room and both were 2 singles zipped together.
This is a disgrace for a five star hotel and despite all the glamour of the hotel this is my worst stay ever in Scotland and can't wait to leave this hotel.

Dear Guest

I was very sorry to learn of the disturbance caused by the extractor fan located in the courtyard of the building during your most recent stay with us at The Balmoral. Given the hotels central location, our inward facing rooms are typically quieter than other rooms in the hotel and I have asked our maintenance team to check the fan to ensure that it is functioning properly and any noise kept to a minimum.

I understand that when you spoke with the receptionist to request a room move, you preferred to be kept on the first floor. I fully appreciate that given the time of night, you wanted to keep any disruption to a minimum; this did limit our options and I regret the new room did not afford you a more peaceful night sleep.

I know that you met with our Front of House Manager on departure, who has updated your preferences in case you should choose to return in the future. I would still welcome the opportunity to discuss your experience with you personally and can be reached on the number below.

With renewed apologies,

Yours sincerely
