“Still the best hotel I've ever stayed in by far!”
Reviewed November 7, 2012 via mobile

The Balmoral gives exactly what you want in a hotel, fantastic setting , fantastic service and a touch of pure class .
There is nothing a can fault with this hotel, this is the second time we have stayed there.
From your check in , to the guys who being up your bags, to every member of staff who acknowledges you as you pass them anywhere in the hotel , to the fantastic bar staff, from start to finish this is customer service at its very best !!
The rooms are also so clean and decorated to a very high standard.
The location is ideal as well, on Princes St , everything easily accessible for all you shopping or sight seeing needs!
Prices can be a little expensive for your stay as are the prices in the bar, but again is worth every penny as this is a service experience far beyond any other hotel we,ve stayed in!
If you want the best I would recommend you stay at The Balamoral!

Stayed for one night to celebrate our anniversary (15yrs!)

Room fine but not fab, the view was best feature (Castle lit up at night).

Meal in brasserie & drinks in the bar great, service in both fab, informal and friendly!

Disappointed to discover that we paid about £100 more for room (booked in april) than we would have paid on the day. Mid week in November was always going to have availability, shame we booked early and cost ourselves £100. Told room was upgrade, thought it v average apart from view.

5 star service made our visit a good one we'd like to repeat.

Room disappointing and we thought overpriced at standard rate. Look forward to last minute booking next visit.

Visit Edinburgh 3 or 4 times annually, stayed at Balmoral Feb 2012 for first time and again for 4 nights in Sep 2012 , consistently friendly ,helpful & excellent staff , meals , service ,room ,atmosphere ,spa & cleanliness top notch. Have stayed at renowned hotels across Europe and the Balmoral is well up there with-out been in your face.
Tips - (1) dont think about going just go - if your there the week before Christmas you can buy me a drink (I`ll be the smiling Geordie) - and tell me I was right and (2) If your blowing cash No 1 Restaurant isnt in same league as The Kitchin

Room Tip: (1) Dont pick room on front -where current building work on Princess Street will spoil view.

we loved our stay at the balmoral!!! they were wonderfully helpful, the rooms were amazing (the bathtub! i want it!), and lots of perks. would definitely stay here again.

we also stayed a night at the scotsman (right across the bridge)-- it had more character for sure, but the balmoral was certainly swankier. just for those considering between the two...

I had the good fortune to attend a reception and a Dinner in this absolutely wonderful Hotel and my wife were made to feel like VIPs from the very moment we entered the Hotel - everything was done 'just so'. The Hotel clearly has the highest standards and the efficiency and politeness of all of the staff bear witness to this.
The Dinner was the best served meal I have ever experienced in any Hotel or restaurant. With over 130 people seated, the teams of table staff delivered every course to the table piping hot and the table service of wines throughout the evening was first hand, with very attentive staff.

This hotel is best for location, food and service. The room wasn't particulary outstanding. The view was of the Castle which was amazing so it's worth it for that, though there may be cheaper hotels with the same view. The room had a very comfy bed, great bath and shower and lovely toiletries. It wasn't that big though and not partcularly oustanding.

The breakfast was amazing. I had breakfast downstairs one morning and it was lovely (Scottish breakfast). I had room service the next day and all of it was lovely. All on time, and all great. I am usually disappointed by these things! Room service general was quick and efficient with great (obviously overpriced) menu.

Service was excellent all round. And the spa was briliant - I had a full body massage and used the pool/sauna/steam room. I fell asleep in the relaxation room as it was so calming.

Hotel also very quiet so good to relax in.

A great place for a good standard, cosy winter weekend break.

Room Tip: Castle view!

What a lovely hotel. The staff were extremely helpful. I had trouble with a floral/gift delivery from an external company for my daughters birthday and the staff went over and above their call of duty to help me resolve it even although the problem was not caused by them.

The spa was fantastic, the treatment could not have been bettered and the therapist make me feel relaxed from the outset and was very knowledgable on products. One little gripe - the sound proofing not good in treatment room and could hear talking from neighbouring room but the therapist turned the background music up a little and that helped.

The bedrooms were nice and very clean with all the little extras - nice products, hair dryer, clothes brush etc. There is a turndown service at night. The bedside lamps a little bright if one person wants to sleep whilst the other reads - -maybe not it all rooms. No kettle in room.

Dear Guest

Thank you for choosing The Balmoral to celebrate your daughter's birthday and I am delighted that you enjoyed a memorable family celebration with us.

I am also pleased to learn that your Spa experience exceeded your expectations and I have shared this with our Spa team. I am also pleased that our staff stepped in to help you resolve a problem you experienced with an external company regarding a floral gift delivery.

I have taken note of your comment with regard to the bedside lamp being a little bright and when you decide to visit The Balmoral again please let me know as I will arrange for tea and coffee making facilities to be placed in your guest room.

Thank you once again for your feedback.

Yours sincerely
