“Relaxed Luxury”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel and each time has been lovely, from the check in which is easy and quick to the check out nothing is too much bother. No need to worry about parking your car as when we arrived we just handed our car key over and hotel did the rest. We arrived quite early but our suite was ready, we were shown to our Grand Suite and were talked through where everything was and more importantly how to use the Nespresso Coffee Machine and also the process of ordering breakfast the night before and handing in the sheet at reception. Breakfast is served in your suite, it's taken straight to your dining table. I really enjoyed this idea as you can have a leisurely time having breakfast and getting ready before going out, best bit for me with this is. to having to listen to people who persist in taking calls on their mobiles during breakfast. On our way out for the day we handed our key in, doing this means they will "make up" your room, they will only do the room if you tell them (this is a new thing as we have not had to do that on our other 2 stays here) I will definitely be staying here again, the beds are comfy and big, the shower was nice and hot and powerful, my only gripe is why on both mornings did housekeeping feel the need to vacuum outside our door at 9amon Sunday and 8am on Monday,

We were ever so pleased with the 1 bedroom suite on the third floor. The fantastic view was expansive. There were lovely luxury touches in bathroom toiletries, towels and cleanliness. The small micro wave fridge were handy. Fireplace and newspapers in the small inviting lounge were cozy and provided the sense being guests at a well kept historic home.

The friendly staff - particularly Harryson were delightful, helpful and always sent us out for the day with a pleasant "Cheers"! The sincere wish that we would love Edinburgh and all its magnificent treasures was appreciated. And that is just what we did- spent a week primarily in town with so much more to do!

Room Tip: The third floor to the back of the residence has fantastic views out over Bell's Brae, Water'...

I have just returned from a four night stay at The Edinburgh Residence which my wife and I enjoyed very much. The suite we were allocated was extremely spacious and provided far more than I would expect from similarly priced accomodation in the city with effectively a sitting room and bedroom luxuriously furnished. I must also comment on the staff who were by far the most friendly I have encountered with any request met with a smile.

The Edinburgh Residence started life as a timeshare, offering suites to owners on a flexible or fixed week basis. In time it has changed and now also runs as a hotel. Rooms or suites are graded as Classic, Grande or Townhouse, and sleep from 2 to 6 people. Bathrooms are luxurious with robes and slippers provided. All rooms have TV, DVD player, microwave oven, fridge, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine, with ample cutlery and crockery provided. You can be self-sufficient or have breakfast (full Scottish, or continental) served in your room. Room service provides food throughout the day, and there is an extensive wine list.
It is located about 5-7 minutes walk from the west end of Princes Street in a quiet part of the city. Car parking is available and the staff are all very helpful.
We have been staying here once or twice a year for over 15 years, and continue to be impressed. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear overlook Dene Village and the Water of Leith. Upper floor rooms at the front give...

Well we both love it - my husband and I. We own time share at the Residence so naturally want it to be excellent. But I'm not biased because we own here. It genuinely is excellent. The staff are lovely - friendly but discreet and very helpful. The suites that we have stayed in over the years are beautiful and our favourites are those that are high up at the back because of the wonderful views towards the Firth of Forth.

The decor and furniture is of excellent quality and each suite is differently styled but all within an underlying theme of gracious elegance.

The Residence is situated in a quiet terrace of lovely Georgian buildings at the West End of the New Town and it's only a short walk to many good restaurants, Princes Street and all main attractions. The Residence also overlooks the Dean Village at the back which is a delightful area of varied and old property by the Water of Leith. The area originally being the location of millers and bakers serving the residents in the New Town.

The food at the Residence is excellent. The Residence doesn't have a restaurant as such although it can cater for private parties, so eating in is primarily by room service. We particularly enjoy having Scottish Breakfast or Continental Breakfast in the room whilst looking at the magnificent view. One small point - we noticed when we didn't order any bread or toast, marmalade, jams and butter were still delivered which seems a waste. Also for continental breakfasts, it might be worthwhile offering a selection of cheeses and hams?

We had one evening meal in our room and also a light bite on another day as we were too comfortable to go out again. All excellent and everything was delivered promptly at the time requested.

I must mention the servicing of the room - spotless every day and the lovely thick towels and dressing gowns are wonderful. As was the shower in the suite we were staying in - I have yet to come across a more powerful shower anywhere. It's like standing under High Force waterfall in Teesdale although hotter of course!

Looking forward to next year.

Room Tip: If you are not frightened of heights, second and top floor at the back. The views are stunning.

Actually, I did not book this one during my trip in Edinburgh but got transferred to there by Holiday Inn. However, I enjoyed my stay very much. The staffs are nice and the suite is lovely. They have a clean and big bathroom which I like it very much. The breakfast is served in the room and it is very delicious. WiFi signal is not strong but workable. The location is very convenient, just 10mins walk and you will get to Princes Street. In general, I like this hotel very much.

I was treated to afternoon tea for my birthday. The visit started well but rapidly went down hill. Food was good but the waiting staff left a lot to be desired - food arrived 10 minutes before the tea which we had to ask for - not good. Won't be back.
