My wife and I recently spent a night in this beautiful hotel which is ideally situated for Edinburgh's West End. We were met at reception by a very friendly young Australian girl who enthused about the city and the hotel. She in no way exaggerated the quality of this splendid residence which displays all the grandeur of it's Georgian heritage with none of the normal drawbacks of an aged property. We had booked the one night bed and breakfast internet rate and were delighted with the very high standard of the room and service provided. We had a massive room which had a very comfortable bed with adjoining lounge area complete with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, crockery, cutlery and selection of wine glasses along with a tv and dvd player and an mp3 docking station available on request. We also had robes and slippers provided, all very plush! The room was very cosy despite it's enormity and surprisingly quiet given it's ground floor location to the front of the hotel, in fact it was the quietest city hotel we have ever stayed in. The bathroom which was equal in grandeur to the bedroom/lounge area lovely had the best shower I have encountered in any hotel. As this hotel has no restaurant, all dining is in suite. We decided not to opt for this on the evening of our stay however wish we had done after experiencing the quality of the beautiful breakfast which was delivered at our requested time. This allowed us the luxury of not rushing to get showered and dressed in the morning and made us feel like Lord and Lady of the Manor!! There is a fantastic selection of juices, cereals and porridge, toast, tea and coffee and a great cooked Scottish Breakfast, one tiny complaint was the type of black pudding which for my taste must always be sourced from Charles Macleod of Stornoway to be top quality. This however is nitpicking as I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and still had time for a lie down to recover before we had to tear ourselves away from this beautiful hotel. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone who wishes a stylish, comfortable, quiet haven which has easy access to all of the capital's delights.

Room Tip: For a great view ask for a suite to the rear of the hotel

Dear millhouseglasgow,

What a wonderful review millhouseglasgow! Thank you for sharing it on TripAdvisor.

We love your description of feeling like “Lord and Lady of the Manor” with our breakfast experience! All our breakfasts are prepared with local produce and are cooked to order, meaning it is fresh, hot and delicious when it is served. As you highlighted in your review, we serve breakfast in the privacy and comfort of your Suite, so you can relax in the dressing gown and slippers provided, read the papers and take your time over breakfast – a wonderful start to any day.

We are proud to have one of our guests describe The Edinburgh Residence as “a stylish, comfortable, quiet haven which has easy access to all of the capital's delights”. Thank you very much for your recommendation. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

With Kind Regards,

We were here over a short weekend and able to get the Sunday night with dinner, bed and breakfast at an excellent rate. The room description said a suite but really it was a large room although the bathroom was very large and had a jacuzzi big enough for two to relax in. Don't forget Archemides principle that the water level rises when you get into the jacuzzi especially if there are two people. The room we got had wonderfull views looking over Edinburgh's New Town towards Fife.
Breakfast and dinner are served in your room which we enjoyed while looking out over the views.
Meals were very good although rather a limited dinner choice menu.
The location was great with a short distance to the West End, close to the Dean Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art as well as having nearby access to the Waters of Leith from where you can walk to Murrayfield or down to Leith. Check and see if there are any free tickets to Edinburgh Art Gallery exhibitions.
Friendly staff happy to help, although possibly not too knowledgeable. Very minor irritations that they could easily correct like missing milk for tea and coffee and missing dinner menu.
Definitely return here.

Room Tip: Get a high room with a view across to Fife.

Dear KenTripUK,

Many thanks for your lovely feedback on your recent weekend break at The Edinburgh Residence. We are delighted to have The Edinburgh Residence recommended as “great value, excellent location and comfortable room” by one of our guests.

Our Classic Suites are far more spacious than most five star hotel rooms, with an average floor space of 41metres squared. A number of our Classic Suites also have a spa bath for ultimate relaxation. We try to ensure our guests feel as much at home as possible during their stay and so serve our cooked to order breakfast in your spacious suite so you can relax, read the newspapers and enjoy breakfast in privacy, just as you would at home!

Delighted to read that you would return for another visit - we hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to The Edinburgh Residence soon.

We stayed at the Edinburgh Residence courtesy of a timeshare exchange and found it to be one of the best timeshare experiences yet. From the initial greeting at check-in to the final farewell at checkout, we received the royal treatment from the staff, who went out of their way to accommodate our every request. Our suite was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The view was spectacular. There was an obvious attention to detail, including the rubber ducky in the bathtub! We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.

Absolutely fantastic stay for a week in a townhouse apartment. The rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We loved the fact that the room was only serviced when we wanted it and that the hotel tries to stay as "green" as possible by only replacing towels when customers wish it. The staff were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful, without being intrusive. The location was very convenient for the West End and nearby attractions, while being very quiet and serene. We had a really lovely stay and would definitely go back.

Only downsides...we had breakfast in our room one morning. Again, superb service but the breakfast, while good, was not spectacular. Also, the wi-fi connection was abysmal! But these are very small niggles and did not detract from our stay in the slightest.

Dear Sylvanette,

We are delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay at The Edinburgh Residence and found our accommodation “spotlessly clean” and our team “very friendly”.

Thank you for highlighting our central, yet peaceful location in your review. The Edinburgh Residence is located in Edinburgh’s exclusive West End – only ten minutes walk to Princes Street and the main tourist attractions, yet quietly situated away from the main hustle and bustle, with wonderful views over the quaint Dean Village (part of Edinburgh’s certified UNESCO World Heritage site).

We are proud to offer all our guests complimentary WiFi access throughout the hotel and also have a computer with internet access for guests to use in our Drawing Room. Our WiFi service is usually very reliable, though of course on occasion there may be an unexpected fault – once we are aware of a problem we are normally able to resolve the matter quickly. I am sorry that you experienced problems with our WiFi, though I am pleased that it did not impact on the overall enjoyment and impression of your stay.

Many thanks for taking the time to share your recommendation on TripAdvisor. We are pleased to read that you would choose to come back and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon.

We just stayed one night but will be back -

Situated in Edinburgh's West End, Rothesay Terrace is close to both the city's main tourist areas and over looks the quaint Dean Village area of Edinburgh yet it is a peaceful yet central location and just a ten minute stroll from the City's Modern Art Gallery.

We cannot rate this amazing place high enough. The staff are absolutely first class, attentive, friendly but professional. Our suite was extremely well appointed, sumptuous, very tastefully decorated, absolutely spotless but equally relaxing. Very comfy bed, Jacuzzi (wonderful) - stunning view of a number of spires.

The breakfast was to die for - so nice and relaxing to have breakfast in the suite - very well presented, pristine linen, Just the treat to start a wonderful sunny Sunday morning .... and as it was Easter ..... we were greeted with a chocolate egg ......

A simple but lovely touch.

You can pick up a mid week treat incl dinner for a very reasonable cost for the 1st class experience.

This place is a must - a stunning place,

From entering the foyer, through to the reception lounge, afternoon tea in the drawing lounge - the Edinburgh Residence Experience is quite something - maybe even the description of Excellent doesn't quite cover how wonderful this place is.

To have one of our guests say that “maybe even the description of Excellent doesn’t quite cover how wonderful this place is” is simply fantastic - all of us here at The Edinburgh Residence take pride in helping our guests enjoy a memorable stay with us.

We are delighted to read that your cooked to order breakfast, served in the comfort and privacy of your own suite made a great start to your day. We have just returned from a week-long stay at the spectacular Edinburgh Residence. My spirits soared on simply opening the front door to be greeted by a cavernous and tastefully decorated lobby, complete with roaring log fire. I fully expected to be slightly disappointed by our suite (no. 28) as I couldn't quite believe anything could live up to that welcome...how wrong I was. The suite was simply beautiful and enormous! Panelled walls, "Victorian" tiled bathrooms - complete with brutally forceful showers! - and wonderfully comfortable beds with quality Egyptian cotton bed- linen. We are extremely picky and there were a few slightly shabby corners, but the overall splendour of this hotel more than made up for a couple of petty niggles, not to mention the achingly polite, friendly and efficient staff. Go.

We stayed for 4 nights at the Edinburgh Residence and it was absolutely wonderful!
The Victorian terraced house is very beautiful and classy. It is situated in a very quiet residential area, yet only about 5 - 10 mins walk to the city centre.

Our suite was stunning and everything was immaculate and very clean! We had 2 huge bathrooms, both of them had a shower, one of them even had a jacuzzi bath tub. There was plenty of space, so even with 4 people staying in one suite, it was big enough!

We had breakfast one one which was served in our room. You could choose between continental and cooked breakfast (both including lots of choices) and it was very tasty. On our last day, we had ordered afternoon tea and had a lovely table reserved for us right next to the fireplace in the Drawing Room. From the large bay windows, you have a lovely view across Dean Village and the afternoon tea was a delicious and classy experience!

As I've mentioned, the suite was immaculately clean as was the rest of the residence - the cleaning staff do a great job!
Another special thank-you goes to everyone from reception! Everyone is very, very friendly and helpful, whether it comes to booking tours, taxis, restaurant reservations or anything else!

We can highly recommend the Edinburgh Residence and if we ever come back to Edinburgh, we will certainly stay there again!

Room Tip: We stayed in Suite 5, which was absolutely amazing with 2 huge bathrooms. It was downstairs - so if...
