“Comfort with service”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Spent a November week here - our first visit to the Edinburgh Residence. As a timeshare experience my wife and I were suitably impressed even though we were allocated a basement room (this was very conveniently located next to the alternative exit). The residence was comfortable, warm and very convenient for the city centre. We did not try the in-house catering but would imagine that this was of the same quality as the accommodation.
We would definitely like to make a return visit.

Room Tip: If you want a view try to get one upstairs.

Dear Alistair M,

Many thanks for writing such a lovely review of The Edinburgh Residence. We are pleased that you enjoyed your recent stay with us.

The Edinburgh Residence is housed over three Georgian Town Houses, in Edinburgh’s New Town, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The property has retained a number of delightful period features such as wood panelling, ornate cornicing and grand staircases. Added to this, we are ideally located on a peaceful street, yet also only a short walk to the city’s main tourist attractions.

We are glad to hear you hope to visit us again in the future – we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best Wishes,

Celia Hague

Very comfortable and traditional. My suite was a large room with a large bathroom and a great view. It was nicely decorated and had everything needed. The service was very good. The hotel is close enough to most tourists and business parts of the city centre to be a pleasant walk away and yet it is quiet and has parking. I travel to Edinburgh a lot and have stayed in many of the hotels, this may be the best one.

Dear Jonsjourneys,

It has been a pleasure to read your review of your recent stay at The Edinburgh Residence and to be described as “may be the best” hotel in Edinburgh is truly wonderful.

As you highlighted in your review, our suites contain everything you need, including Nespresso machine, kettle, bathrobes, slippers, complimentary The White Company toiletries and more. We are ideally located, a short walk away from Princes Street and the main tourist attractions, yet also peacefully situated with magnificant views over the Dean Village.

We hope you will choose to return to The Edinburgh Residence and look forward to offering you a warm welcome back.

Kind Regards,

Celia Hague

Went for some bureaucratic business to Edinburgh and took advantage of this to plan a wee trip with my husband. I chose the Edinburgh residence as it was very close to the place I had to go to, but honestly if I had to go back to Edinburgh, I'd stay there even if I had to do business in the other part of the city!!!
The suite was very comfortable, super-luxury and beautifully furnished. The bathroom was beautiful and we had both a walk-in shower and a jacuzzi bath... sooo relaxing!
The bed was comfortable and cosy and all rooms have room service included in the price for your breakfast, which is delicious, too.
Did not have time to try out the restaurant due to a stomach bug, but it will definitely be for the next time!

Room Tip: Any room at all is great

What a wonderful review NicoleGalenKatt! Delighted you had a comfortable stay with us at The Edinburgh Residence and enjoyed our luxuriously furnished and spacious suites. All our suites are individual in decoration and design, making us slightly different from your standard hotel. And for that added level of luxury, we serve your cooked to order Breakfast in the comfort of your own Suite, meaning you can relax in your dressing gown and slippers, read the newspapers and take your time over breakfast.

We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Edinburgh Residence when you are back in Edinburgh in the future.

Great spot while visiting Edinburgh, in easy reach of all the things to see and do. Hotel itself, was very clean, with spacious bedroom, with enormous bathroom, all very grand. I found the staff to be very helpful, they pointed us it some good directions for excellent eating places. Hotel food was very good, we just ate here one night.

Stunning views over Dean Village and a huge bed sitting room The bathroom alone is bigger than most peoples bedrooms Parking is so convenient at the rear of The Residence. Suite 20 as mentioned by another guest is in need of an upgrade. It is in a state of faded grandeur. Our sleep quality was disturbed by the crockery rattling noises from the corridor and very heavy footed guests in suite 26 above us- the latter problem of course was not the fault of the Residence.
However the staff are fantastic - polite, helpful and really friendly. Deborah the office manager cannot do enough to assist when making a booking.and chats freely to guests when not in her office.
The Residence is is close to all Edinburgh has to offer and coming' home' to the comfort of The Residence at the end of a hard days sight seeing is like stepping into a pair of soft slippers .

Room Tip: Give this suite and 26 a miss as the bed heads are on the wall backing onto a corridor and therefor...

Dear mrsdancingqueen,

Thank you very much for your recommendation on TripAdivsor. It is truly wonderful to hear The Edinburgh Residence described as “home” and akin to “stepping into a pair of soft slippers”.

As you highlighted in your review, unlike most city centre hotels, The Edinburgh Residence offers free onsite parking for our guests – we will even park your car for you, so you can start to relax as soon as you arrive.

Thank you for your comments regarding the presentation of suite 20, one of our most popular suites with spectacular views over Dean Village and beyond. We are committed to maintaining our high standards of decoration and presentation and as such have an ongoing refurbishment programme in place. This year we have redecorated the Drawing Room, all stairwells and hallways, the reception area and entrance lobby and we will be redecorating the Morning Room (our dining room) before the end of the year.

We much appreciate your comments regarding the friendly service you received from all members of our team, and in particular Deborah – we believe a warm welcome and friendly smile goes a long way to ensuring our guests feel “at home” at The Edinburgh Residence. I will pass your comments onto them

Many thanks again for taking the time to share your comments. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Edinburgh Residence.

Did not enjoy our visit at all. We were left for 30 minutes before being acknowledged. Ignored by staff, management and especially Debra from the office. Food not up to a fresh standard. Would not return and would not recommend. Was, however, impressed with Neil who took the time to talk to us. Ruined a special birthday which cannot be rectified.

Dear TripAdvisor Member,

Thank you for giving feedback on your recent visit to The Edinburgh Residence for Afternoon Tea. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy all aspects of your experience at The Edinburgh Residence.

I understand from the team that you arrived 30 minutes early for your Afternoon Tea reservation and you were welcomed and shown into the Drawing Room by one of our Managers. At The Edinburgh Residence we prepare and cook all our food offerings (breakfast; afternoon tea; lunch; dinner; room service menu) to order, to ensure it is fresh when it is served. As you arrived early, the afternoon tea was still to be prepared and this was done as quickly as we could for you.

Our Afternoon Tea is served on tradition three tier silver cake stands in the comfortable surroundings of our Drawing Room, which offers spectacular views over the Dean Village and beyond. Alongside freshly brewed Twinings tea or Brodies of Edinburgh Coffee, our Afternoon Tea offers a selection of freshly made crustless finger sandwiches, homebaked scones served with clotted cream and Tiptree jam and a selection of home made sweets and cakes. We can cater for vegetarian and gluten free diets too, upon advance request.

We aim to ensure all our guests receive friendly genuine and I am disappointed you felt that some of our team fell short of expected customer service standards. From previous reviews and other general guest feedback, our team generally receives a lot of praise for their customer focus and I am pleased to read your comments regarding the service you received from Neil.

Thank you again for your feedback, we do hope you would consider returning to The Edinburgh Residence for Afternoon Tea again in the future.

Yours faithfully,

Celia Hague

After looking around for somewhere that has gluten free cream teas.
We thought this would be good. How wrong could I be.After sitting down we were told no gluten free scones. So cream tea without cream.when stand arrived they were 10 sandwiches and shop bought tray bakes.my daughter told when phoning no sandwiches.
The non gluten free was not any better.
Horrible cakes
And could you call it tea .
Would have been better going to MacDonalds .

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your comments on TripAdvisor regarding your Cream Tea at The Edinburgh Residence. We are always pleased to read what our guests thinks, as it really does help with our commitment to continually review and improve the service we provide.

We make every effort to ensure all our guests enjoy a truly memorable experience at The Edinburgh Residence, but admittedly on this occasion we appear to have let ourselves down and we are sorry and disappointed about this.

I understand that at the time, our Manager on Duty ensured you were not charged for the gluten free Cream Tea and invited you back to The Edinburgh Residence as our guest. I do hope you will return as our guest and allow us the opportunity to provide Cream Tea to our usual and expected standards of service.
