Having waited till 10am for the Christmas market to open to buy a crepe for breakfast we discovered the stallholders were in no rush to open, we spotted the gallery had a restaurant and was open for breakfast. We did expect it to be very pricey but it wasn't at all. We were quickly shown to a seat and given menus. The breakfast range was great, I chose to have homemade fruit scones with tea, my friend had a fresh sausage bap. The food arrived quickly and was very tasty. I would love to try an evening meal here in future.

We visited here on a cold damp afternoon. We started in the restaurant where we shared afternoon tea for one and bought an extra pot of tea. We were shocked at the volume of food which was supposed to be for one person which included 3 scones! The galleries were spacious and well displayed, but there is a little too much 'religious' art for my taste.

A very interesting gallery with a story of Scottish history told through the excellent notes about each painting. The current WW1 exhibition is also worth the visit. And yes, it's free!

We love visiting all the Edinburgh Art galleries especially the Dean and the Modern Art Galleries (now called the Modern One & Two) along with the Portrait gallery the art on view is always brilliant. The cafes too are great places to eat and drink.

Interesting World War One exhibit is worth checking out, but don't miss the rest of the galleries either.
