I cannot believe that it has taken me so long to visit this gallery. I do not think that I have ever spent so many hours pottering in one place. So much to see and a fantastic gift shop.

My wife and I took an architectural tour of the gallery, gaining an insight into the history of the building and collection and it's recent restoration and updating. The building is beautiful and a great backdrop to the extensive selection of paintings - ranging from the atmospheric spaces below to the light filled spaces on the top floor.

Particularly like the mix of old historic portraits with contemporary paintings of familiar faces

Well worth a visit

It's worth taking a look in here just to admire the interior, which is stunning. We viewed the House of Annie Lennox, Tickling Jock, and Edith Tudor-Hart's photography exhibition. Varied and fascinating subjects on display, We also enjoyed the bright and airy cafe with excellent home baking - highly recommend the shortbread.
Admission is free, but you can make a donation.
