Owner description: Adults can indulge in a nostalgia-fest and children discover how their (not so) aged parents amused themselves as youngsters in a world before video games. There’s a wholesomeness to the construction kits and embroidery sets that once kept little fingers busy in a world that embraced the notion of "Improving Sunday Toys," while train sets and dolls houses have enduring appeal. If the implacable stare of the massed ranks of a compendious collection of dolls becomes a little unnerving, there are dressing-up boxes, and regular organized activities to provide diversions.
Useful Information: Activities for older children

A free attraction along the Royal Mile, this museum is good fun for 'children' of all ages but particularly those over 40.
There's not a huge amount to do (as opposed to look at) but it filled an hour for us. Unfortunately, some of the things that you could do or watch were out of order when we visited.
As stated, good for an hour or so and the shop at the entrance is good too.

Another nice and free museum. Well worth a visit, this place is not on my top 20 must-do in Edinburgh but if you live here and are past that list, pay a visit to the outstanding collection on vintage toys on display here.

This is a free attraction. It was interesting to look at the different collections but my son wasn't really interested in reading about the items. Worth a visit if you have some time to spare.

The museum itself is barely 2 floors of a home. All of the exhibits are behind glass cases (rightly so as they are all antiques). My kids did enjoy looking at everything and it was a nice spot to spend 30 minutes out of the snow and rain, but not an interactive children's museum.
