“great day out for everyone”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

Edinburgh zoo is lovely. take walking shoes as there are a lot of hills ! i went to see the huge pandas but was very disappointed as they werent letting people see the male and the female was fast asleep... other than that it was a good day out.
i love animals but i got very upset when i saw the sun bears, their enclosure was very tiny, and the bears were very bored as they were just pacing up and down, its a horrible thing to see.
i went on a Sunday so it was empty which gave us time to slowly walk around without being trampled on!
it cost about £10 to get from Edinburgh city centre to the zoo by cab or you can choose to get a bus.

Well organised visit to Pandas - pity they were sleeping but a well informed tour guide gave a very interesting and informed talk. We will go back

“Good day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

It was January, and many animals were taking it easy out of view, but even so, it was a good day out. We saw the pandas, two fighting rhinos, lions, and many other beasts. Beware it is a very steep site, so if your timed panda visit allows it, take a little shuttle to the top and make your way down, rather than walking up the hill all day!

“Two Disappointed Visitor's”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

We went to Edinburgh Zoo on a bank holiday, so prior to going we checked the opening times on the internet. We arrived at 9am as this was the time of opening, and got into the zoo no problem. However as we walked around we noticed that there were very few animals available for viewing and some enclosures that were not open until later. When we eventually found someone to ask about the lack of animals on view we were told that the morning was used for cleaning many of the enclosures and so the animals were not let into them until around 10.30am. This resulted in an hour and a half of strolling around looking at the small selection which was available for us to view. When we were eventually lucky enough to see the animals out and about, we had a nice time being able to watch them and many of them were making use of their outdoor enclosures.
Also, the on site restaurant which we used was very, very expensive and we paid almost £5 for an unimpressive chicken and bacon sandwich.
As well as this we left feeling a little disappointed at the lack of panda activit. We understand that they are animals and allowed to act or sleep as they please, however with all the emphasis that is placed upon being able to see these magnificent creatures at Edinburgh, you can't help but feel a little deflated when all you see is the back of ones head and are rushed in and out of the viewing enclosure!!
