“Friendly family fun”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

I found the camera obscura a thrilling day out filling about three hours of fun. Me (12years old) my mum (42years) and my brother (8years) met up with friends of ours (another family) and their youngest child was 5 and oldest 10, so day trips for both of our families can be hard with all the age variety but camera obscura entertained us all.
An activity we all laughed at and enjoyed was the room where one person looked tiny and the other really tall, but everyones favorite was the vortex!
There is only one tiny suggestion i'd make and that is to make the mirror maze harder.

“A brilliant spot hidden up beside Edinburgh Castle.”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Recommended by our next-door neighbour, we really enjoyed this outing. The view of Edinburgh is really interesting and the exhibits had us hooked from the very start. Perfect for those coming with children or those who just want to spend an enjoyable few hours.

“Five Floors of Illusions :)”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

I found the Camera Obscura very interesting - I was never bored, making my way round five floors of illusions! The short tour of Edinbrugh through the pin hole camera to begin was impressive, as were the views from the top! No regrets for finding this attraction :)

“Thoroughly worth a visit”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Plenty to keep anyone amused for a good couple of hours. Kids will definitely love it (it's halfway between a museum and fairground hall of illusions). I suspect not ideal for disabled people, as there are five floors accessed (I believe) only by steps.

In truth, the original Camera Obscura is historically interesting, but not a desperately interesting attraction - on anything but a very sunny day, the experience is underwhelming; but, as I say, the historical value is interesting and plenty of effort has gone into the other four floors of intriguing sciencey fun. If you like illusions, lasers, optics, and trompes-l'oeuil, this is a must.

“Thanks Tesco”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

We did this due to the days out vouchers you can get from Tesco. It is well worth a visit and is open until 8pm, so can be done later in the day. You need daylight to actually do the camera obscura views of Edinburgh but if you get there late, it is still an enjoyable trip
