This tour is included in the Edinburgh pass which my husband and I had. Having done the tour years ago I advised him how brilliant it was. We did the tour this time at lunch time. This may have been the main reason it wasn’t so good as last time as I did that in the dark which added to the atmosphere.
The tour starts on the Royal Mile and the guide then tells you a bit of history before walking you down and showing you the spot of the old gallows and then explaining the history of South Bridge and Cowgate. Then you’re taken underground (under the bridges) and into the various vaults they have.
I’m not frightened easily and just found it of interest rather than fascinating. Maybe it was the guide and/or the time of day. I wasn’t even spooked when another tourist showed me a photo she’s taken with an orb right next to me.
Recommended, especially if you have the Edinburgh pass.
